The audio being 5 frames ahead of the video when coming out of the Black Magic TV Studio HD switcher is probably due to the Black Magic just passing the audio straight from input to output, while your camera video takes a winding path through the Black Magic's video processing circuits such as wipe, keying and other special effect modules which are always in the video signal path whether or not you're using a particular effect. It just turns them on and off as commanded. So this is where the video delay comes from. Unless Black Magic has any option for audio delay inside it, what you're doing here is the way to go with the external audio delay unit.

The first was connecting the blackmagic design software to the micbook air. Once again installed on another window laptop and connected. Then the first laptop (mickbook air) was disconnected. What to do to connect again.

Just picked up the HyperDeck Studio 4K Pro and was wondering about several of these satiations regarding not picking up the file in Software Control on my ATEM Mini Extreme ISO. One thing that I'm running into is sometimes I notice a random flicker in animation with my lower 3rds. It's not consistent. I'm wondering if I need to replace an SDI cable or something because it doesn't always do it and I'm running the animation from an SSD (tried on a couple different).

You probably would be interested in the new Blackmagic Studio Camera 4k Pro and Plus cameras that were announced a few days ago, because not only do they have a new dual ISO sensor with much, MUCH better low light performance, but they also have a plethora of other new features in a more compact over all size. They seem like they would be far more ideal for your studio situation.

My issue is not the audio but the video. I have 2 Canon XA55 cameras with SDI connection to my ATEM TV Studio. I am coming out of the AUX output going to the projector screen. Another way to “see” recent updates to the content of your SD card (via ftp, especially if in another room... where you can’t re-seat the card with each upload,) is to select the gear icon (bottom left) and in the Hyperdeck tab, refresh the ip of your selected Device. I’ve found it most simple to momentarily replace the last number of the octet (x.x.x.151) and let it go off line (x.x.x.152.) Once it has disconnected, replace the original ip (x.x.x.151) and it will refresh the file list in the GUI. Your new videos will be added to the END of the list. Re-seating the card will re-order the file list alphabetically and not chronically.

In the past I used the Digital Audio Lip Sync Delay bei JS Technology. It works on digital SPDIF signals that are transported via Toslink. I use an HDMI audio inserter to insert the SPDIF audio data stream into the HDMI cable, this gaining a digital audio input for mixers such as the Atem series. Doesn't solve the issue with multiple cameras, though. I often times used OBS for streaming since it has a video delay, too. None of the Atem switchers has that, to my knowledge, not even the most expensive ones. So the "slowest" camera in terms of delay is defined as "now", all other HDMI signals are delayed, audio is delayed in OBS, too. This makes even more sense when using cameras that don't use HDMI at all, but that are connected via ethernet, which usually has even more latency. So far this works well and stable enough. Also, OBS is able to run VST plugins such as broadcast audio limiters. (Though I have hardware for that, too) Problem is… streaming is dead and people want video conferencing. And since there is a remarkable latency in my OBS solution and since going from OBS back to USB-UVC-Video would introduce even more latency… I'm checking into hardware video switchers again.

You can also try an SDI Embedder.

BMD provides some pretty powerful audio tools under the hood of their ATEM switchers via the Software Control app. You can have EQ, compression, gate, limiter, etc. It's inconceivable to me that they don't include an input delay feature built in to the software to solve what must be an extremely common issue.

Thanks a lot for this video. Thinking about a similar setup for streaming events. I'm concerned about the sync between audio and video but I'm also worried about the sync between cameras. Two of the cameras would be 100 metres away from the AV mixer and the other two maybe 20 metres away. Did you have to solve this syncing problem? Have you got any idea if there is a way to sync the 4 cameras and the audio signal in case I have delay issues between them? Thanks for any help.
