Tony didn’t like the feeling of killing his best friend Sal on the boat after learning he was a rat. He had the same opportunity to kill Paulie and he would’ve been right to do so. He chose not to kill him because he didn’t want to lose anyone else. Anyone calling Tony a psychopath doesn’t understand this story, it’s pretty obvious how conflicted Tony is about this life and is a morally grey character. He passes out all the time over the stress of the decisions he’s constantly forced to make, noticeably when he first starts to fill the role of Boss or when he was a child at the sight of blood. How can you be okay with killing if you pass out when your father is cutting meat for dinner?

That was tonys way of putting him ronthe test to see if he would crack.. He was having the conversation with beansie about Pauly the night before and he askes beansie if Pauly has ever truly been put to the test
