Ooh, such an exciting era to costume!! I hope you have a great time with it! I am currently making costumes for Hello Dolly which is also set then and they are just fabulous fun!! We are in Melbourne so you should totally come and watch it for inspiration. (CPP Community Theatre). I would strong recommend the Truly Victorian Patterns… and especially I think their Trumpet skirt would be perfect for you (TVE21).

For wool suiting in Melbourne I can recommend Super Cheap Fabrics. I got some beautiful Italian pure wool suiting through them at a very reasonable price as it was designer dead stock. 10/10 can recommend! You do just have to keep an eye out and check in regularly.

I was a Eurovision superfan for years, but I had to boycott last year. If they let Israel compete again this year, I'm out. Honestly, after the way they treated Eric Saade over his keffiyeh wristband, Bambi over their makeup, and Joost generally last year, I'm not sure booting Israel would be enough on its own to get me back on board. I want to see Martin Österdahl fired.

@@aprilhoy4010 oh if only we could see that happen! I'm giving them one more year to see what happens with the new producers of wellbeing but honestly the solutions to this feel very obvious. I am boycotting Eurovision as much as possible after 2023 and the rigged "win". But I know about what happened to Joost. I didn't listen to his song though. (I heard the song Traffik that he did with Käärijä). I did watch a fan recorded video of the Ireland artist. It would be hard to do Bambi Thug's outfit. Joost's outfit is easier. Good luck with the project. 😊

@@nian60 I totally understand that!!! We all know my absolute undying love for Kaarija, the people Champion 🏆 this year was much worse tbh. 2024 at least had a lovely vibe between the contestants. This year people either had to hide in their dressing rooms or get targeted, even Jere wasn't safe from it when he did his semifinal performance. They have hired a performer wellbeing producer this year so I'm giving it a chance to get better but bugger changes need to be made. Though I think Finland dodged a bullet not having to host such a difficult and dangerous year, would have cost an absolute fortune, I don't think Sweden got back what it put which is why they don't want to host it again for a few years.
@nian60
@nian60 Күн бұрын
@@amyofmelbourne Martin Österdahl needs to be replaced, to start with. Being Swedish I'm very angry with how we "won" in 2023. So I think it served us right that there were problems in 2024. Yes in hindsight Finland dodged a bullet. I really hope Europe stops voting for us (Sweden).

I have seen a wool and viscose blend fabric here in Europe. (One was 60% and the other 40%, I have forgotten which was which). It looked like wool. I haven't got my hands on any because it sold out quickly. I don't know if you can get that in Australia though. Maybe you can get viscose felt. Viscose felt is intended more for arts & crafts. I don't know if you can wash it or not. Sorry, I don't have any better ideas this time. 🥴 Dyeing black hair blonde is not easy (Käärijä's hair turned orange when he went from black to blonde), so a wig will probably be the best choice.

Everything in Japan is just a little bit short of half the price just because of the yen, but lots of things are also cheaper anyway, possibly due to differing patterns of government subsidies, culture etc for example, to get to the capital city of my island from the other end, it costs about 15 to 40 pounds depending on how fast a train you choose. In the UK that costs 150 pounds to go from halfway up! 100 yen is about 60p now, and 60p in the UK gets you like two Freddos (very tiny candy bars) Even outside of textile districts, craft stuff in Japan is CHEAP and PLENTIFUL. In fact, all hobby stuff is much more easily available than in the UK. People are allowed to like things here in Japan haha

Thanks for making this video! I appreciate that you pointed out that the front pattern piece is bigger than the back. I was attempting to clone a simple dress that flatters my plus size figure. Only I realized that the front piece becomes gradually bigger than the back just below the bust line, so the original dress doesn’t lay flat. I pinched up the ‘difference’ and saw that it begins at 1/2 inch bigger and becomes 3 inches more by the hem. I am confused because I can follow the seam line to trace the back pattern piece, but don’t know how to incorporate the extra fabric of the front. I think the reason I like this dress is that extra fabric…lol! I also wanted to thank you for the tip about pinning the flounce to the top portion first and THEN gathering!
