Nick Offerman, you're a total bad-ass and thank you for the inspiration. facebook.com/rockinboxes2016/ I've been trying to become a modestly better woodworker for years and everything Nick says has helped me to do so. I make keepsake boxes from exotic species. It's so easy to get started...it's one of the easiest and cheapest ways to make yourself feel better and to make others days a little brighter with a thoughtful creation. Thanks Nick

We got married and needed stuff, we had kids and needed more stuff, then grandchildren came along and required stuff but now on my own again , the workshop with all its memories keeps me occupied till I've passed my sell by date. Well done Nick for your words of wisdom

I make because I spend 30 years working to repair, fix, and supporting people as a manager. I had an urge to create vs fixing something. I got into woodworking. I have rarely built more than two of the same thing. I explored building jewelry boxes to wood stripped kayaks.. I guess the next thing is wood lathe or welding, who knows.......

I make and fix things because I find morons to be incapable of slightly succeeding at such a task. So I grew some balls and decided to do it myself.

I make whatever strikes me at the moment in my wood shop to deal with a stressful job. I can close the laptop and put away the crap I have to deal with every day and get out the pecil, paper, ruler, and protractor and draw out a plan. No, I don't use sketchup. I'm old school. My shop time allows me to focus on one single thing, and have no distractions while cutting wood. It's my zen. It allows me to continue in my career.Nick's got the goofiest laugh ever!

After an injury that drove me into an early retirement, I knew I had to do SOMETHING to avoid going crazy. Or dying. I had always had an interest in woodworking. I dove into that, and now you can find me in my ever-expanding woodworking shop. Making. Anything that strikes my fancy.

Ya know I get that too. I work with engineered wood for power transformers , and every once in a while I "make " some thing and everyone says the same thing " how do you know how to do that ? " and with the same response " how do you not??"

Well I started making stuff out of wood because I wanted to give a nice rustic farmhouse table for my mom as a gift and I couldn't find anything like what I had in mind anywhere. I fell in love with wood and metal as a materials and continued the journey to chairs, few similar tables for friends, reading throne (literally), and couple more projects. I make because I love making people around me happy. #WhyIMake
