Cool frog room you have! I’m interested in what the background is on the tank where you have the terribilis in. It looked like white flat rocks. What exactly is are they?

How many can you keep together
@yetigrant8843
@yetigrant8843 3 жыл бұрын
You can keep as many as you want together but the more frog you have the more room you will need and females will fight sometimes but the more room you have the less likely they will or they can get away from each other usually it’s two frogs for every 15 gallons

I keep mine in a Biorb aquarium, false bottom with the original rocks and added LECA. I can remove part of the substrate(and sift for any bugs) and replace it when needed. So far I keep a community tank of earthworms, millipedes, and several species of Isopod including Porcellio 'Powder Blue' and 'Powder Orange', and the Porcellio Laevis 'dalmation', there is also a few wild caught ones that I thought looked really cool. I keep many others in their own enclosure such as the 'Hoffmanseggi' and just keep regular wild-caught Isopods in my Hissing Cockroach enclosure, though I have some Florida Fast Isopods coming to add to them. I'm hooked, if you can't tell, and it's been maybe five months since I got into the hobby. :P Edit: Blue Merle Isopods reside in the community tank as well.

How big are the mites? Are they obvious? Can there be mites smaller than your eye can see? I'm having trouble finding information on how to actually identify mites that infest springtail / isopod cultures. There are so many different kinds, search engines fail me. I thought the video might show them, but I won't complain that this method works. I'm new to this hobby, and it's looking like mites are going to be enemy #1, so any help would be awesome.
@yetigrant8843
@yetigrant8843 4 жыл бұрын
Clown Crusade you will see the mites if you have them. You will see little White specs all over the container or bigger ones eating the springtails/isopods food if this does happen you will want to remove the culture and clean the area. you can try to remove some of the springtails/isopod and start a new one just keep a eye on it. there is a way to keep the mite away They have mite paper they have a spray/powder joshes frogs also sells something called bug cutter you can try any of them they all seem to work for ppl

Add a healthy amount of activated charcoal (and/or regular charcoal) and calcium carbonate powder to your soil and it will help deter mold/fungus growth, while also being a source for nutrients and odor/stuff absorbing.

Why do you have heaters in this tank? They are a subtropical species and don’t like warm water. Your neon tetras and red tail shark are both tropical fish that need temps in upper 70s as opposed to upper 60s. On top of that the red tail is an extremely nippy fish to slow moving tankmates especially if kept at incorrect parameters.

Yeti Grant Pete moss: a large absorbent moss that grows in dense masses on boggy ground, where the lower parts decay slowly to form peat deposits. Peat moss is widely used in horticulture, especially for packing plants and (as peat) for compost. Hope this helps bud!
@yetigrant8843
@yetigrant8843 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks good to know! This is what I read. Most of the peat moss used in crop production comes from Canada and is composed mainly of mosses from the genus Sphagnum (of which there are 160 species of sphagnum found globally). This is where the name sphagnum peat moss is derived from
