How many sheets does it take before the blade needs changing? Is possible to sharpen the blade by bringing it to a professional?
@thepaperpandacrafts2038
@thepaperpandacrafts2038 3 ай бұрын
It’s honestly hard to answer the first part of your question because it depends on what kind of paper you cut. As far as getting the blade sharpened I’m not sure if a professional could sharpen it because of the micro serrations, it might end up costing more to sharpen it than to just replace it. Hope that helped and thanks for watching! 😊

@@thepaperpandacrafts2038 thanks for the quick reply! I was wondering about a ballpark figure. If my papers were 100gsm, would the blade last through 10,000 papers?

It should be ok for 10000 pages but just keep an eye on the corners, if you notice the corners being bent or not getting as clean of a cut then it maybe time to replace the blade. The hfs website has instructions and videos on how to do it. Plus there’s blades on Amazon for 30-50 bucks. 😃

Thank-you Mr. Panda! My written directions were all in Chinese or some other Asian language and so I had no clue from HFS how to operate this wonderful guillotine. Because of your suggestion I easily slid off the bottom black edgers and could add my feet (which do keep the guillotine from sliding). I easily cut the edgers down just a bit with a kitchen shears and reapplied them. Thanks for suggesting that. Your presentation is friendly, low-key, and informative. thnx.

I bought this a few years ago to make inserts for my ring planner. When I cut a lot of paper, it shifts, even with the pressure foot tightened. As a result, the top half has an accurate measurement, but the bottom is a few millimeters off. When I have the paper flush against the back, the pressure foot damages the paper while cutting. I stopped using it. Does anyone one else have the same problem?

I make notebooks/ journals, and have struggled with this too. Theres a couple things I've noticed and am still trying to fix. What I've found is that a solid sheet of 3mm greyboard [Think backing of paper pads] tends to keep the swell down [that causes the mm difference] which accures when I really clamp the paper under the foot, but can still be cut through. Also, I dont press the paper against the side edge, only the manual slider rail. I do this since I've noticed that the side edge is out of whack from the cutting grid by a fair bit, causing uneven cuts. But, when i'm just doing some quick blank books that have no lines, I usually just cut the stack once, then flip over the whole stack and cut it again to get an even edge. Hope that helped somwhat. I'd love to know anyones idea of squaring up that side edge though, its a great cutter otherwise.

I realize this video is a couple of years old but as I only purchased the same oldest model a month ago then discovered I didn’t buy the same model as another well-know crafting KZfaqr, I found this video. I’m in 🇨🇦 so I, too, can’t seem to find blades. I emailed We R Memory Keepers and they assured me they do still make replacement blades. Anyone looking for them might want to reach out to them for help to find in your location. I’m awaiting a reply for where here I might be able to get some. Yes, there’s certainly “planned obsolescence” as someone commented, but I am happy that companies make improvements that work or make sense - as long as they still support/supply needs for older versions. I’m guessing The Paper Panda isn’t vlogging here anymore since no new videos since last year???

I am not a hundred percent sure, but if your talking about corrugated cardboard it might but if you’re talking about the type of chipboard I showed in the video I would start small and see what feels comfortable. Remember that the more that’s put in to cut the harder you’ll have to push down on the lever. I hope that helps a little bit.

Since you specifically ask, re 1:55/2:00/2:06/2:13 - half of a (US) "Letter" (8.5x11") sized sheet of paper can be variously called Memo, Statement, Mini, Invoice, Stationary, or Half Letter, or 5.5x8.5" (I don't know the relative frequency of these names; they're what's listed on the wikipedia entry for Paper_size -- I know I saw a document yesterday that mentioned Statement, though). That's _approximately_ equivalent to A5, but annoyingly different in that it changes the aspect ratio (0.772727... for 8½/11, 0.6470588... for 5½/8½), whereas the ISO A-series sizes don't change aspect ratio when cut in half (always 1/√2 (~0.7071), or just √2, if one divides the long size by the short, instead of the short by the long as I've been doing) -- which is super handy! If I've got a PDF made for A4 (though rough equivalent in the ISO A-series sizes to Letter), I can "impose" it into a booklet made to be folded in half and presented as A5, or even folded and/or cut smaller to present as A6, and the aspect ratio just keeps on staying the same. It's great. A2 would actually be 4 sheets of A4, so roughly equivalent to double the US "Tabloid" (or "Ledger"; either way, 11x17") size, for which I don't know of a "name", but it's sometimes called "ANSI C" size, which is 17x22". (I've actually switched at home to using A4 (again, approximately similar to Letter) for most things... but, it's annoying in certain occasions where dealing with Letter-based stuff that really cares about the size, so... I keep some Letter around, too, and use it for some things. If I could encourage a trend of other Americans switching to the metric sizes, that'd be amazingly cool. It's Just So Much Better[tm]. ;) ... though I know, switching is hard. The more of us that do it, though, the easier it'll become!) Anyway, thanks for the cutter review!

It should only be doing that if the blade is dull. How many notebooks/ card stock are you cutting at once? It could be that you are cutting a little too much at one time. Thank you I would get it even without the coupon. The nearest craft store in 86 miles one way. I live right by the Beautiful Pacific Ocean in Crescent City CA. It is a very small town. The only way you can get it it is. Three different ways is by going over a river. The other way is by boat or flying 🤔 😕 😩

Wow, that’s a long drive. When it’s that far you gotta make the trip worth it. Thank you for watching 😊
