One of the things to know about the Siemens HMS-D style pull stations (like the one shown in the vid): even though the pull handle has a spring, the handle can get stuck on older/dirtier pulls. No idea why that’s the case but you may have to manually push the pull handle back up. One thing to know about the Notifier/Fire-lite/Honeywell BG-10 models is that it was recalled due to the screw reset breaking the pull station plastic. One thing to know about the BG12 models of Honeywell pulls is that you don’t need to flip the switch back up. The pull is designed to automatically flip the switch back up by itself (I’m not joking. It’s true!). One thing to know about the Edwards 270 style pulls is that it’s easy to strip the “tamper proof” security screw on top of the newer models.

@@firealarmtech4100 I would also like to know if any more service call vids are coming or if you are gonna show some inspections soon. Even though I have a bunch of knowledge about fire alarm hardware, I’m not yet a tech. I’m still an enthusiast looking to get into the field. I’m still hoping to get into the field one day as I have fun tinkering with fire alarm devices (I bought my own from eBay).

I've transfered to another area that doesn't have all the interesting and latest equipment and large buildings with networks so finding content is rather challenging. Thank you for reminding me, I've just put a few up and hopefully I will have more time to work on this channel.

Bet that was a fun job. The shoddy wiring, the reprogramming, the fact the panel needed to be replaced. I would be having fun with that job and my OCD would make me want to completely re-wire the panel to fix it back to how it was supposed to be. I wouldn’t be surprised if the bad wiring was part of the reason the panel lost its programming. However, i think it may have to do with the flash memory or ram chip being on its way out.

No, but you can create your audio files in the programmer.
@Rgidhkfel Жыл бұрын
True, a wav file won’t work. Back in 4100U school, some of the techs that were computer savvy were able to modify wav files and import them. The default library in the programmer should have just about everything you need to create a custom message. You would have to contact a JCI (Simplex) sales rep to order a custom message.

Very cool video. I really wanna become a simplex tech myself so i can learn these panels and mess around with them and make systems work for clients of all types. I do though have a question about es.exe: I was modifying my simplex 4007es demo board and reprogramming it with its matching programmer (6.01.03). One day the computer decided it didn’t want to connect to the 4007es when i decided to dump in a new config. I used an ethernet cable which was connected correctly and the service jumper was in the proper position. A restart of my pc fixed the issue. What exactly could’ve caused es.exe to act up like it did, and have you had the same problem?
@achannelwithnopurpose19772 жыл бұрын
This is why I wanna work for JCI Simplex. I wanna learn how all this works. There’s just something about this stuff that just really draws my interest. Gotta ask though: - What caused the dials to get out of whack?

@FireAlarm Tech Did you have to burn another chip to reconfig or can that panel use a port? Can reburning chips also be used on the 2120?
@Rgidhkfel2 жыл бұрын
Just the eprom, the exec chip stays the same unless you are upgrading the system rev. That generation did not have port for downloading/uploading. Later models utilized a port and would burn a flash chip.

Always about the big picture. Thats how I would do it. I would always look at everything and do what I can to eliminate future service calls and make life easier for the next tech.
