Interesting to hear the patronising attitude taken towards Dundee by the media even then. Unfortunately it persists and does nothing for the confidence of Dundee people and the standing of the city as a whole. This might explain the way Dundonians defensively tend to put the place down themselves (before anyone else does) and feel squirmish when anything positive is said about it. As to the 'regeneration', much of it was blatant philistine vandalism perpetrated by a gang of corrupt councillors and their pals out to make a fast buck. They have never been forgiven for ripping the heart out of the old mediaeval city centre, and rightly so.

Very true. We included the QE2 film as an illustration of the Clyde shipbuilding industry which was showing signs of decline in the late 60s.

I'm from Lockerbie and I know a few of the people that responded to the scene, it was very grim. Mostly firemen that I know, they spent a fair bit of time picking up bits of dead body and various other bits of debris. From what they've said to me, picking up bits of human meat from inside your garden and out your attic isn't good fun.

shocking disturbing and sad fact: a flight attendant of N739PA (clipper maiden of the seas) actually survived and was found by a farmers wife but she sadly died before help could arrive, it was later determined by ems crews that 3 or 4 passengers would've survived the crash if they where found sooner.

I went there a few years ago to have a look around the scrapyard, a mate was looking for parts for a project car. I was aware that parts of the 747 were stored there, and part of me wanted to go looking for them, but part of me did not. Apparently certain people did steal items of wreckage and personal effects of the passengers. I imagine with a debris field stretching as far as Kielder to the East, it was hard to prevent such behaviour. On a more wholesome note, I understand that residents of Lockerbie washed, ironed and returned several items of victims clothing.

@@SPiderman-rh2zk When did you go there, are parts STILL there do you reckon? I'm not even sure what happens to wreckage of airplanes after they crash actually. I know they try and piece it back together to find the cause but I always assumed it would just end up getting buried somewhere. On a similar note, the crashed car in which Princess Diana died in is still locked-up in a shipping container in France. Same thing happened after 9/11, either a few firefighters and/or police officers were looting from the stores in what was left of the mall under the World Trade Center. Luckily it was only trousers from GAP. There were reports of some regular people stealing discarded wallets etc from the streets though. Someone even traded in a victims phone in a pawn shop in New York. Thanks for sharing that information about what residents of Lockerbie did with the victims clothes, that's really touching.

@@jonathanlandau-litewski7405the area of the fuselage where the bomb went off was reassembled at Farnborough, where they do research into fatal air crashes. Those bits will still be there, in a "black museum" that they have of the remains of aircraft that have been involved in fatal incidents. Accidents as well as this act of mass murder.

~~ the flight had already gone over 30K feet in altitude and was going nearly 500 mph (ground speed) - when the explosion happened. For most of the passengers & crew at least - this would have resulted in a fairly rapid loss of consciousness - before they would have even had a chance to put on an oxygen mask - if the masks even deployed at all - some of them may have ..

Back in 93 I worked for a helicopter company, me and a engineer had to take a trip out to Farnborough where the air crash investigation office was, next to it was a huge hanger where a staff member gave me and my colleague a tour, it was full of the remains of air crashes, even down to a smashed up micro. And in the corner across a giant scaffold was a huge section of the outer skin of the pan am. I stood just a couple of feet away, I will never forget that day.
