For $350 you have a monoblock setup 150 watts each channel. How they will hold up is unknown. Contrast with a vintage receiver (I own 9). To get it refurbed is $500. But daily use will have issues pop up in 2 years. I listen to music 10+ hours a day at 85dB. Thus having these as a backup are good. They are speaker/load dependent. Some speakers sound good. Others terrible. Sound has wide separation in stereo mode, vocals and electric guitars are clear. Soundstage is good. Finicky in SQ as dynamics fluctuate. Could be extra detail in bass and lower mids exaggerating dynamics of kick drum and bass player. Could be load issues (ohms of speaker). I own many speakers (4 sets) so easy to swap out.

That is a cute little device. I own some antique radios including 1936,1942, and 1947 Silvertones and a 1940 RCA Victor. The 1936 Silvertone was my grand parents and I used to play with it in the early 60s. They all work. The RCA has an RCA jack in the back (!) and with some adapters, I plug an Amazon Echo Dot into it and play Christmas music on it. This unit has the same vintage vibe to it and I'm sure it sounds better than my old radios. LOL BTW Goodbye Blue Sky is an awesome song.

Meh! This device is ONLY about vintage styling...nothing more. If it actually had an AM/FM tuner built into it, (along with all the modern connection features) it might have brought something different in terms of a product. It really has nothing over other WiFi/BluTooth speakers apart from its styling.

I work at a local store and we have a lot of people who do this. The best way to view it is like going out to have a beer with friend. You don't come home with a beer but you enjoy the night out and the bar scene. People don't have a turntable, but they LOVE coming to a music store and having a "VINYL BEER": talking about music, looking through the MILLIONS of memories on the shelf, picking out ones that make them excited, making some of their musical love tangle, etc. EVEN IF playing the record is left out. They LOVE just coming in and have a "vinyl beer" or two each week.

I struggle to stream the music I used to listen to when I was 13 and 14, which was only 10 year's ago as the nostalgia is too strong and upsetting. All those lost friends, crushes, and times. I can imagine how it must be in your case to go back to that age after such a journey in life.

Recommend bookshelf speakers under $500 that deliver: - Balanced sound with crystal clarity and warm signature. - Unfatiguing sound signature for extended listening - Layered, lively, and nuanced vocals with depth and dimensionality - Taut and nuanced bass response with subtle textural details and low-frequency extension - Immersive sonic landscape - forgiving to not so well recorded songs. Prioritize precision, fidelity, and listening comfort in your suggestion:

In my opinion, among those who DON'T have a turntable/record player and collect vinyl, I think they collect them for mostly the artwork and, like you said, the "missing out on a trend" factor. I see stores selling vinyl record frames at pop trend stores like FYE and other places that sell vinyl records.

if it Only had a power button plus output selection and comes with power supply it would be worth it but as someone that has Zen Dac v2 i can say this STAY Away it's very Overpriced it has lots of issues like usb detection btw IFI needed 2 years to fix that on v2 many are defective out the box same for v1, v2 and now same with v3 plus 3 versions and it still Lacks basic features like output selection and power button and as a bonus you get that signature iFi Dac High Noise Floor you can hear with even 80ohm DT770 Pro on low gain btw v3 is literally v2 with USB-C that been said the Zen Can is really good

Thank you,, you mention a reason that i haven't thought of yet. The record as a gift. I don't know anybody who's buying records wihtout having a record player. But to be part of the AAA community and discussing on the german AAA (audio analogue association) board: somtimes people buy some records first and it just takes time till they found the recordplayer that suits them. Shouldn't it say "50% of vinyl record byers don't own a truntable (yet)"? I also know some people who have records but don't own a record player anymore...they switched to other formats or are not invested in musi listening that way anymore. A ot of them are coming back and buy a turntable.

A single disc LP album in 1975 cost $7.50. That is $45 dollars in today's money. Records I purchased in the early 70s still sound awesome today. CDs are cheaper than vinyl, but vinyl isn't expensive. Most LPs cost between 20 and 30 dollars.

An interesting video, thanks! But I absolutely don't believe the 50% statistic, my experience in London would place the percentage far lower, probably around 10-25%. Certainly if one looked at the cohort of buyers over 30 in age, it may even be in single figures. This 50% number has been bandied about for years, with little credibility among experienced buyers of records. Cheers!

I'm 54 and still had my small collection of records from the 80s, when I started to collect again around 2009. I'm in Canada and back then at a live show, I remember I could buy a CD or vinyl to support the indie band I was seeing and both were $15 CAD, so at this point I opted for the vinyl (especially if the art work was impressive). All to say, I amassed a collection with the full intention of eventually playing them again. I eventually picked up my first of half a dozen thrift turntables, and eventually I bought a used Rega RP1 about 10-12 years ago and it's what I use to this day. I had read about not "ruining" vinyl by playing them on inferior decks with bad / old needles, so I admit I didn't actually play any of my 'new' records until I bought the Rega and upgraded the needle. I remember reading a few people commenting on Reddit that they thought it was silly to buy records without first investing in a turntable. However, like you, I have to watch my expenditures and I took my time to find the right 'deal' for me. As well, some of those early records I bought at concerts were exclusives (I didn't know it at the time) that really shot up in value and especially back when I started collecting, were either out of print for a decade and in at least one case I can think of, have never and might never get a repress (and are now worth a couple of hundred dollars). That was my return to vinyl journey and reasoning at the time. Cheers!

I owned a turntable for a long time and had a mid range turntable AtLP120. I sold it and was looking to buy a higher end one, but I dont have a great space in my place to put it so I haven’t picked one up yet. I do still occasionally buy records to play with the rest of my collection, when I do buy it. Also, and good suggestions?
@DalstonVinyl
@DalstonVinyl 10 күн бұрын
@@BackForwardPunch you could think about a Rega turntable and a Rega wall shelf, (Pro-ject also do shelves), fixing a turntable to a wall saves a lot of space, and can be very advantageous to how they sound. Cheers!

I've invested in a nice lower tier TT, but have upgraded the platter, cartridge to mc, a new weight for the heavier mc cartridge. I have had and listened to lps since the 70s. I already have an electic collection in good shape, many that are hard to find. The thing is I have built up my audio collection and gear over the years, that was the only way I could do it. I have just set up a nuc to run roon as a server to a used PS Audio single bit DSD. The new 24bit hd FLAC, hate to say it, has the depth, soundstage and clarity as my mc phono with tube phonostage and integrated amp. Tidal has a lot of music, BUT I have a lot not on Tidal. Once the trend changes for streaming HD, I will still have my albums.

Collecting is cool, although I don't really partake. I collect *music* not media. There is a FOMO element because I prefer to get the nicest edition. Sometimes that means getting a CD in a gatefold or digibook format which may not be in print for long. I pre-ordered the digibook version of Travis' new CD which just arrived this week!
