From googling, Most fish, both in freshwater and salt, detect sound from 40 Hz up to 500 or 1,000 Hz. Garmin's FFS has a frequency of 417 kHz, or 417,000 Hz, 417 times higher than what they can detect. I'm sure they can detect the clicking of the transducer, but I remember my 2D transducer clicking just like that 30 years ago. IMO, fish aren't going to wise up from feeling FFS.

I wade fish small creeks and ponds in the summer and have always noticed that when you walk on the shore near the water fish spook really easy but when you’re in the water not so much. I retrieve my baits all the way to my rod tip because a lot of times they will bite within a couple of feet from you.

Last week on Lake Picachos, MX I tried the Free Rig for the first time. I had a zoom Magnum Lizard tied on. Fishing in deep water between two islands I caught 30 LMB in two hours, including a 7.52 lb. Can't wait to learn more ways to Free Rig. Thanks for the suggestions.

Today in 8’ of stained water bass we’re feeding on surface and cruising a point and always ended up directly under trolling motor running down imaging and FFS. They didn’t care and we caught around 20 on that point

In my opinion the fish can feel/ hear the transducers. Like you mentioned the ticking, which is the transducer pinging. Sound which is vibration travels farther in the water & is amplified. But bass are curious too. So I think all fish could react differently. Some may come inspect it, others may shy away, & some completely ignore it...? I don't think it scares them away myself.

🍺In my opinion bass are definitely “aware” of many things, light/dark, cold/warm, dirty/clear, large/small, slow/fast, silent/noisy, cloudy/sunny, calm/windy, summer/winter but they are not scared/afraid of any of it. They simple behave/react at times differently towards each of them and they generally speaking are fairly consistent in dealing/living with each. The top anglers figure this out better then most and that’s in part one of the reasons why they are successful🤠.

Take a watch set the alarm throw it on oneside of the swimming pool a big swimming pool. Go in the opposite end and go underwater and you can hear the watch crystal clear beeping. So bass can hear everything easily and their laterrial lines pickup electrical currents.

I don’t know…. IMHO, the lightest Core Tackle wacky shot is the way to go. It gives the worm GREAT action, and from what I’ve seen it doesn’t sink THAT much faster than a weightless wacky rig. One of Core Tackles best baits, IMHO. But, with that said, this has been around for a while. Those pins are VERY cheap, and it does work. I used them exclusively, as an affordable alternative to the VMC rig/tool (which are WAY overpriced), and they worked great. But, I’m completely sold on the Core Tackle Wacky Shot. That’s such a great rig. And, not all stick baits fall the same. But, with that bait, you get a really nice consistency, regardless of senko-style bait being used.

Great insights, Matt always appreciate how you combine anecdotal info along with science to support your point. Your reference to the "small brain" of fish reminds me of something the "Bass Professor" Doug Hannon used to say. He would never talk about what bass "want" as they were incapable of such decisions. Instead, he referred to what they "need," in order to eat, survive, and reproduce... Which is all they are programmed to do. Your assessment supports this notion.

They need to make blanks to match these handles. By cutting it you completely change the flex pattern of the rod and the same for making it longer by not having the blank go to the bottom of the handle. Or the need a cut point marker on each blank to keep the overall length correct for specific handles similar to ferruled hand rods.

So, I believe the ping is effecting the fish. When I go shallow, I turn off the transducers and turn on my hydro wave to hide the trolling motor sound.

All of these different rigs are a little bit of a scam. You just need to find fish that are hungry and put something in front of them.

Absolutely if you got a pattern in there you pop that place over and over. A lot of times us old school guys will tell yah sometimes you got to make repeated throws in the same area to get em to bite. With me im looking for certain clues. If im getting bites on small clusters im keying on that. Or maybe its something a little different where pads and reeds meet etc. Absolutely agree brother!

I use multiple sizes of transparent plastic straws. Using scissors cut about 1/8th inch cross sections. Slide it on from the small end of the worm then place your hook Neko or wacky style. Lasts through several catches.

Great video Matt. I like all of your choices and would be happy just fishing them. I would add a curly tail worm by Roboworm or the 4 inch power worm….once the water warms up I think curly tails get more bites than straight tail worms. Something off the wall is the Nikko Tadpole….we have had 100 fish days on that thing. I know you weren’t impressed but the OSP Dice gets bites of all sizes for us.
