The terms "be a man", "man up", etc are quite destructive. It feeds into the narrative that men can't have moments of weakness, be gentle, caring, emotional, or flamboyant in our behaviour. It means men can't take a moment to learn through mistakes, shouldn't ever be wrong...and this makes it a doom loop of bad behaviour. It's led to a mental health crisis for men and we could learn some ways of lifting men up rather than continue to blame everything on them or perpetuate these destructive trends/phrases/ideology that have long outlived their usefulness.
