Fun fact: There was a cheaper version of the sedan and wagon sold at Saturn dealers called the L series.

I LOVE my 98’ Tacoma! The most reliable pick up ever built, and fun to drive too. When the world finally ends (hopefully sooner than later), all that will remain are cockroaches and Tacomas.

My driver’s ed car was the non-turbo Sunbird 1.8L with automatic transmission. My second car was the 84 Buick Skyhawk with 2.0L OHV with 86 HP and a 4 speed manual. As a daily driver and an occasional fun drive I felt the 2.0L with manual transmission was the better engine and transmission for the early J-body cars. First purchase was to replace OEM tires for higher end touring tires for better performance. Feather driving gave me more than 30 MPG city and more than 40 MPG HWY. get on a winding country road and it was a fun car to toss into the corners.

I drove a Peugeot 5008 (suv) in Europe last week for a week. It was competent transportation with a funky steering wheel. Nothing luxurious about it. Now that it is under the Stellantis umbrella we might not see it over here since Chrysler has the US market for them.

84 was rearvwheel drive, bring it back to camry as a option. I hate fwd and live my camry but would prefer it in rwd. Enough of this fwd madness. Put engine in so on v6 plugs and exhaust are reachable without top end being removed. Put trans in the correct direction front to back not side to side. Fwd makes no sense unless you.live in snow area. And still not a solution awd is better. Bring back rwd makes basic repairs easier and cheaper.

Kia Optima 2003-2006 was also produced in Russia (Plant Autotor Kaliningrad). We called it Magentis. I bought this car in 2006 and still drive it. Maximum configuration EX V6.

I drove a 1984 Sunbird with this engine and owned a 1984 Buick Skyhawk with the 2.0L OHV base engine with manual transmission. I preferred the 2.0L for its low end torque delivery over the 1.8L OHC. My Skyhawk didn’t have power steering and that made it better to feel the road. Wasn’t difficult to steer at low speeds but did take more effort. The Olds and Buick had a better dashboard over Pontiac, Chevrolet, and Cadillac J-Body vehicles. Made my Buick handle better just by changing to better grade tires than factory stock. Careful shifting and throttle pressure would get you impressive fuel economy numbers of a little more than 40 mpg highway and close to or above 30 mpg city depending on lights and traffic.

I understand Hillary Clinton brought one, she brought it new in 86 when she was first lady of Arkansas and she was working for the Law Firm. She drove it to Washington for the Inauguration when Bill became President, she kept it in the white house storage, I believe one of the gardeners brought it from her.

Midsize luxury, fuel efficient V6 weren't that economical it's very sluggish, elegant styling and Park avenue interior, The only engine that was capable of hauling the heft was the rwd dieselV6 engines.

My parents bought an '82 Corolla Tercel 4 door and an '83 SR5 4WD wagon at the same time. Both manual. IIRC they had the same motor. Although the '83 had more options and was a better car, especially the interior, the 0-60 was about 20 seconds.

Ford spent alot of money on the P2000. What a waste. All we got out of that high efficiency program was a few models that offered a high extra cost special "SFE" designation which increased fuel economy by a barely noticeable amount. It included the smallest V8 4.6, a lower rear end, a large low front airdam and low rolling resistance tires on the F-150 SFE. On the Focus & Fiesta it included automatic electronic front grill shutters, aerodynamic full wheelcovers, subtle rear aero spoiler, low rolling resistance tires and a lower front airdam. The extra money you paid for the SFE package never recycled itself in the form of a return on investment because its fuel saving benefits were minimal.

I saw the first one 40 years ago, front wheel drive C,s BOC park Ave was the most outstanding,a small car with traditional big car ideas, it also marked the beginning of new V6 engine technology that I still appreciate, the car may not have been technicalogical wonder, but the engine would later prove the most technically advanced engine Buick ever made.❤

$2,955 in 1955 is still only $34,700 in crazy inflation 2024 dollars. If Ford made a car with that level of quality and sophistication today it would easily cost over $100K (if it were even possible which it isn't).

I owned an '81 Thunderbird back in 2009. I paid $400 for it running and driving. It was a base model with an AM radio and the only option was air conditioning.

Well that diesel was the finedt diesel engine made, too bad , GM ruined the diesel experience for North America with the Olds diesel Fiasco , also the cheap interior , and bad duspension job by GM again when adapting the Opel Rekord to the US roads ,( thats what a Chevette is)

Actually, this NA 1.8-litre Diesel I4 was designed for GM from the stout Isuzu 2.2-litre I4 Turbo-Diesel of the time. As usual, GM cheaped out, and turned a good motor into a *SLUG*, by removing displacement, and the Turbo!! These were passable engines with the Manual, but useless with the automatic!!
