what language do you think is preferred nowadays for leetcode? c++ or python

I like Python and I know it is popular because the syntax is very easy. However I see a lot of competitive programmers use c++ probably because of speed. I have had interviews where I have had to use specific languages but generally I think you can use whichever language you prefer.

For the first question did the same as yours , but in the for loop I only wrote len(haystack) and it worked ,coz i think in [a:b] , if b exceeds the original length of the string there is no problem like print("sarthak"[1:12]) Gives arthak , tried the next easy one for an hour and was only able to clear 194/296 cases , will wait for your answer next time, too tired to go through the solutions

Finally saw the solutions, I was way off track , gotta start the habit of seeing the solutions if I don't get the answer in 30 min , wasted a lot of time , 😂

Nice work! Interesting I didn't realize the string slicing would not throw an error even if it is out of bounds. Haha yeah the next one seems harder I will get back to it tomorrow. My general rule is if I am stumped after 20 minutes look at solutions and tips. The yes no column is if I was able to solve the problem or not.

copied the dictionary from your code, and this is the code values = {'I':1, 'V':5, 'X':10, 'L':50, 'C':100, 'D':500, 'M':1000} ans = 0 for char in s: ans = ans +values[char] length = len(s) for i in range(length - 1): sub_string = s[i:i+2] if sub_string == 'IV' or sub_string == 'IX': ans = ans -2 if sub_string == 'XL' or sub_string == 'XC' : ans = ans -20 if sub_string == 'CD' or sub_string == 'CM': ans = ans -200 return ans here i thought that for IV we earlier added 1+5=6, but we should have taken 4 similarly for IX 9, instead of 11, so i subtracted 2 from my original answer everytime IV or IX occur similarly 20 and 200 for other substrings and it gave me almost similar run time as yours

Nice work! I like your approach to the problem. I just consolidated the extra logic with the "special" characters into the dictionary but it's cool to see another way to solve it.

Hi i got this recommended to me randomly today and it's strange because i happened to do this matrix problem yesterday when i rarely log into the website Just to say hope you keep going i admire the dedication and progress tracking with excel sheets! I tried it myself and did the same thing you did. I was thinking it would be some crazy graph problem at first but realized you could just loop over everything and check each square one by one lol

Haha yessir you could do BFS or DFS but it isn't necessary.

You look like you're 22 or 23 lol. How does "in" statement and "not in" work in Python?

I am about 22 or 23 haha. The "in" statement checks if some value or object exists in some iterable and the "not in" statement checks if some value of object does not exist in some iterable. Iterable is anything that can be looped over. The time complexity of "in" and "not in" statements depend on what type of iterable you are using them on.
