This is a great video and history. I was an enlisted air crewman and flew in three VAQ Squadron, VAQ130,132, 135 Det.2 station in NAS Alameda. I made 100 carrier landing in that aircraft. I have toured the museum twice. Thanks so much for sharing this, brings back great memories

I'm just crazy about First Half 20th Century Aircraft; 1903-1953. Boy I'd love to be able to volunteer at an, Airplane Restoration Org. I really would, yet circumstance won't allow so have to be content with watching all the videos I can as they really make my day. Thank you.

The aircraft was an A3D, and with no ejection seats, and the crew referred to the aircraft as "All Three Dead" a little gallows humor.

My late father was a Navy veteran (26 years) was stationed at NAS Willow Grove when I was born. Saw P2s there and at NAS Minneapolis and NAS Glenview, where my father retired in 1970. I didn’t see a P2 until going to an airshow at the Reading, PA airport. The Mid Atlantic Air Museum had 2 there. That was in 1985 or 86. Now they only have one. Don’t know what happened to the second one. Still a unique sound with the turbo compound radials.

Loved your show on the f-106 b. You said one thing that was incorrect. You stayed at that plane was always in California. I was the crew chief on that airplane in paine field Washington. It was in the 498 FIS.

Yes as noted was overweight and underpowered - XF-103 was cancelled after a GAO review of the program determined a likely top speed of only Mach 2.

From the initial looks of it it looked like it probably wasn't going to have a satisfactory range required of an interceptor for it's size and the fact it was going to have two different powerplants. Two very fuel thirsty powerplants. The main factor that killed Thunderchief was the not-so bomber gap and our military had to respond instead to the Soviet's reliance on ICBM's. Also around this same time Convair's project Pluto(SLAM)the nuclear powered ramjet ICCM was also cancelled but their novel guidance system lived on for the development of the Tomahawk cruise missile.

I just absolutely LOVE aircraft (BOTH Airplanes and Helicopters) with BIG, FAT, CURVY FUSELAGE Designs!! The Helicopter in THIS video (Sikorsky H-34 Choctaw) and Airplanes such as the F2A Brewster Buffalo, Grumman F4F Wildcat, the Grumman F6F Hellcat, the Vought-Chance F4U Corsair, all have a BIG, FAT FUSELAGE that I just ABSOLUTELY LOVE the ASTHETICS (PHYSICAL APPEARANCE of)!! I sometimes wonder if it's because I'm a MAN; probably because MOST men are PHYSICALLY attracted to women with BIG CURVES. I do not really know for sure, but something about these BIG, FAT, CURVY FUSELAGE aircraft (BOTH Airplanes and Helicopters) really GRAB my attention and "Turn Me On", so to speak. I DO NOT mean that necessarily in a "SEXUAL" context. Afterall, I am speaking about Airplanes, Heli-kee-pot-ers, and Automobiles, too [such as the 1930's Ford, Chevrolet, and Plymouth COUPES, as well as the 1950's FAT-FENDERED Ford and Chevrolet PICK-UP TRUCKS), as opposed to ACTUAL WOMEN!! However, these designs really do COMMAND my ATTENTION and APPRECIATION as FORMS of BEAUTIFUL ART!! I do NOT mean this in any kind of perverted way at ALL; that is really NOT HOW I mean this!!

Hi , I was a member from HMM- 163 from Sept. 67 to Sept 68 in Vietnam . We operated in the I Corps area and our base was 15 miles below the DMZ. We saw a LOT of action. We did troop insertions , extraction , Sea air rescues , as well as resupplies . We did Keasaun while it was under siege , the Rock pile and of course Happy ( helicopter) Valley . We had some great crews and pilots , even our CO flew and was a great guy to serve under Colonel., Louis Schwindt.we were the -Ridge Runners- our squadron received 2 Presidential unit citation by the time I left . Semper Fi . PS they fly the V- 22- Osprey now. We are Yankee Poppa my bird was YP- 5 .

Its a Bristol Bulldog and its not a trainer it was the frontline fighter. It wasn't the aircrafts fault Bader lost his legs,it was because he was arrogant and ignored orders.

One production aircraft was modified for use as an advanced trainer: after evaluation by the Central Flying School at Upavon, this was ordered by the RAF, the production aircraft differing from the prototype in having slightly swept wings and an enlarged fin to improve spin recovery. Of the Two-seat training version; 59 were built. Powered by an Armstrong Siddeley Cheetah IX of 310 hp (230 kW). In the case of Bader, it was noted that this was the type he lost his legs in. Why that happened or his intentions are lost to history. Thank you for your comment.

Dump the music and try to deliver a more animated, rehearsed, presentation. FFS, research how to pronounce things before recording. It's like you are making it up as you talk. Too much noise, nonsense, and not enough subject.

I was in VP-17, 1965 - 1968 late. I went on three deployments to the Vietnam conflict, and was air crew for the last two deployments for myself. I was radio operator / avionics. Lots of stories and moments with blown engines, massive hydraulic failures, and a couple of enemy attacks. I enjoyed the radio stuff, as I do to this day. Additionally I saw some special and experimental P2's, the US Army had some at Cam Ranh Bay, USN had a few AP2E's at Cam Ranh Bay ( VAH-21 ), and VO-67 had some OP2E, special surveillance/sensor dropping planes. VO-67 had some bad times there.

I used to fuel some of Clays jets back in the 1980s when I was a fueler at FBO Oasis Petroleum a few buildings down from Lacy Aviation. When a 23 would take off, the entire airport would stop to watch. These monsters were loud, shrill screaming polluting missiles. Before the days of EPA, hush kits and noise regulations. They were outrageous little jets.
