Here is a question why is my 100% not matching my native resolution at all.. as in its not the right numbers. one of them is, but the other will not... I have a HP Reverb and it is 2160sq per eye but Steam VR just wont set it to 2160x2160 have to either go 100 or 96 and pick or choose which isnt that its scaled like you refer to its just wrong? and I cant find nothing on this or if its even wrong or intended. Any ideas?

I'd need to re-watch it myself to be sure, but I don't think anything covered in this video is necessarily out of date. The fundamentals of frame timings, framerate and reprojection are all still true to this day as far as I'm aware. There might be some changes in how some of those things work in Virtual Desktop for example, but even then it's all pretty much the same.

Great video mate! I'm having issues with adjusting the resolutions though. I have edited the height and width of low, med, and high settings, to 1200 x 1200, but when i get into the game it stays at 1080 x 1080. I even tried to adjust the settings XML file and changing the height and width there, but it just seems to stay the same. Even with it at 1080 x 1080, it is so damn fun to travel around los santos in VR! It would have been cool with controller motion aiming, but the head tracked aiming is actually pretty awesome!

It's been so long since I've used this mod that I'm not sure what to suggest regarding the resolution issues you're having. I struggle to get it working properly now due to the fact I own the Rockstar Launcher version of GTA V and the, now unsupported mod, seems to have major issues working with that version - even when rolling back updates etc (I wish it did). Sorry I can't be more help, but thanks for the comment!

After using it, I'm pretty sure the PSVR2 uses a default resolution scaling of 1.7 in SteamVR to correct for barrel distortion rather than the standard 1.4 (this is an old video where things have changed now). This means that 100% SteamVR resolution scaling when using a PSVR2 effectively means it's rendering at 170% rather than the standard 140%.
@BartCunningham
@BartCunningham 10 күн бұрын
I am seeing people recommend setting it to 68% to get the 1.4 scaling properly matched on PS VR2. Is this correct?
@ImmersedRobot
@ImmersedRobot 10 күн бұрын
@@BartCunningham it’s difficult to know for certain what the PS SteamVR app is doing behind the scenes, but I would assume that the distortion algorithm they are using requires 1.7x supersampling in order to bring it back to native resolution. That’s the only explanation why 100% shows as 3400x3400 per eye. But I can’t be certain of that, and regardless, that is a very demanding resolution for most PCs.

Primary reason why this game was met with negative reception, apart from the extremely buggy release (of the flatscreen version that is), is that you were locked to flying only one ship. It wasn't unprecedented in the X series, but all the recent titles gave you the freedom to fly just about any ship, fighter sized to capital class. They backpedaled hard with X4 and followed the X3 formula again, with a little inspiration from Rebirth like some of the ship designs, the ability to walk around stations and the game engine itself. And became quite the success, still releasing huge patches and expansions 6 years after release. If VR was more mainstream, this might have become quite popular, because there's just so little to choose from in VR. There's Elite, and that's about it for sandbox space sims that I've heard of at least (I don't count NMS as a space sim, because the focus on space combat and flying is just so low).

If you have dynamic foveated rendering from eye tracking enabled and the game supports OpenVR DFR the you still want to select one of the foveated settings (I use aggressive). 3:20 Yeah, I think that's the part that most modern VR naysayers don't quite grasp. They often use the failure of VR in the '90s as a way to prove how VR is just a fad, gimmick, and flop, but the reality (no pun intended) is that it really is a major part of the future [and current] of gaming, interactive entertainment, and beyond. It's just a matter of when it will become mainstream enough for everyone to get that very clear at this point. And then there will be no going back.

Edit: I regret selling my CV1 everytime I think back on the headset. It was nearly perfect in all aspects. The blacks were truly black, it was light weight, and those controllers were phenomenal! All Oculus needed to do was bump up the resolution and possibly create a model that used laser for tracking vs the cameras that loaded up the USB bus when running three for better tracking/reduced occlusion.

Yes, with those features (which most people are probably advised in getting anyway) then the price does jump up to make the overall deal a slightly higher tier. It's still probably the best dedicated VR system for the specific types of simulation games I'd only ever recommend the Crystal for regardless. And in that recommendation, the controllers might not be necessary for all - especially, as I say, sim gamers. Although I love my Pimax Crystal, I would never recommend it as an 'all-rounder', and I stand by that for my own use-cases.

Question: is Wi-Fi speed a factor impacting dropped frames and fps in general when casting over to Meta Quest 2/3 ??
@ImmersedRobot
@ImmersedRobot Ай бұрын
Without being an expert on the network-related bottlenecks of delivering frames to a headset, my guess would be, no (at least not in showing dropped frames on monitoring software). Wifi issues will certainly manifest in perceived stuttering for sure, but when monitoring via fpsVR, I believe that relies on information from the frame processing of the PC itself. So if fpsVR is displaying a dropped frame, then that is a result of the PC itself dropping the frame, and that has nothing to do with network issues (as far as I'm aware). Virtual Desktop's monitoring tools seem to combine this in various ways to provide more information from network-related issues, so that might provide extra information.

Your video capture looks very choppy for 90fps. Is that the fault of the streaming application?
@ImmersedRobot
@ImmersedRobot 2 ай бұрын
90fps when viewed via KZfaq's 60fps will never look perfectly smooth. For this reason, I show performance data to illustrate how it would feel in a headset with a 90Hz refresh rate. 90fps at 90hz in the headset will be perfectly smooth. You'll notice that the 120fps footage looks very smooth, this is simply because viewing KZfaq's 60fps video on a 60Hz monitor multiplies perfectly for footage captured at 120hz/120fps (each frame of video is off course retained skipping every other frame of captured footage, making it appear smooth). 90fps footage will never appear smooth on a 60hz monitor/60fps video unfortunately. This is why ideal footage for VR game trailers etc will be captured at 60fps (or 120Hz/120fps) rather than 90fps.

Hi Gary. Are you expecting a Crystal Light for review? What I would like to see is a review with the base unit (what you get when you actually buy one), using the SMAS sound solution that comes with the HMD, seems all YT reviews got sent units with the "Optional" DMAS speakers, these are expensive for what they are ($135 Canadian on the Pimax store, $250 on the Amazon Canada Pimax store). I ordered a Crystal Light on May 31, not really expecting it until August. But no one and I mean no one mentions the SMAS sound quality in ANY reviews, is SMAS as good as lets say the Quest 2 or 3, the Pico 4? better, about the same or worst. Sounds is a important part of VR, would be nice to know this information during reviews. As for the DMAS, some say equal of Valve Index and G2 sounds, some say not as good. Any help or info you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. :)

I've been told that I will receive a review unit of the Crystal Light, although to be honest, my current work schedule means I might have to turn the offer down due to limited time to make videos. However, if I do go ahead and review the Crystal Light, I will request an SMAS version for this very reason. I'd be interested to know how good the sound is myself, and actually wish I'd tried that version at the Pimax Roadshow event I attended last week. With regards to the DMAS headphones on the Crystal, I'd personally rank them very close to the sound quality of the Valve Index and the Reverb G2. There might very well be a small difference in sound quality, but I struggled to tell the difference. The DMAS is very good sound quality.
@jackr.749
@jackr.749 2 ай бұрын
@@ImmersedRobot Thank you for the reply Gary, the difference you experienced with the DMAS possibly not being quite as good as the Index is more than likely dependent on what amplifier and DAC a particular HMD is using to power the sound solution. In example, I have a Pico4, no 3.5mm headphone jack on that HMD, I bought a Ugreen USB-C to 3.5mm, I used the DAS headphones with 3D printed adaptor and once plugged into the Ugreen adaptor... the sound is simply amazing, much better than any other HMD I've ever plugged the DAS headphones into (Vive, Rift-S, Quest 2 and 3) so I'm thinking whatever goodies they pack into that little Ugreen adapter makes the DAS sound so much better making me realize the DAS are actually really good headphones, the DAC in VR headsets blows dead goats at midnight.
