Die Kuh is iwer die Fence gejump. 😅 We'd say "...iwer de Zaun gesprung." You sound very American, but still understandable - mostly. You know what Schneck means, right? E "Schneck" (eine Schnecke) is a snail or a scroll. And for those who wonder: "Grawe" (ditch) is related to the English "grave", yes. As a verb "grawe" ("graben" in standard German) means to dig.

Yes, we get teased about being "snails!" Thank you for this information on how you say things, I sent it to my parents. We are glad you are watching from Germany!!

Yeah I know that, my family name is Hahn (rooster) so I get teased too, haha. But as I said, a Schneck is also a scroll, that spiral form is called Schneck independent from the animal. So it doesn't mean you're slow and eating all the salad in the garden. I can buy a cinnamon Schneck (Zimtschnecke) at my local bakery, it's delicious. 😊 Fence is pretty English so maybe they forgot the German words and for that they use the English ones. Fence sounds like "Fenster" (window) so maybe that's related. Gesprung(en) is past participle of "springen" and that means to jump. Those languages are closely related anyway. If you compare official Deutsch to English they look pretty different overall, but if you know some dialect (and some French) it's like a missing link. There are many words that sound or look similar but mean different things, but there's still a connection. The German "Bein" (leg) is the English "bone" and pants are "Hosen", which makes sense cause a pant is made of two hoses so to say. Such things are really fascinating to me.

@@superaids404 a good friend of my dad is a Hahn! I never knew what that meant. Now I do! Thanks for sharing about the scroll, I feel better now about my name! And yes, when I was in Germany in 1999, we bought a lot of Schnecken pastry! I grew up living among many people of German descent. If you haven’t seen my video about our local Grundsau Lodge, you will enjoy hearing people from my county in Pennsylvania speaking in the dialect. Love your videos Darlene! Thank you so much for keeping our history alive. I’m a Remaly (the family that settled and founded the Slatington area), and the new owner of the old Weida house on the corner of Park Ave and 873. I’m looking for old photos and history on the property and thought you might be the one to ask…or at least be able to point me in the right direction. Also if you didn’t hear they’re going to be taking removing the disc golf from Neffs Valley and putting in a playground!

Hi Bryan! It’s great to hear from you, a fellow descendant of an original settler in the area! Thanks for the kind feedback, we love making these videos. Is your new house facing 873 on the fire company side of the street, or is it the other house along Park Avenue at the corner? I knew a Weida who grew up in Neffs, he was a little older than me. I do have some information on the expansion of Neffs in the 1800s, but no additional photos beyond what I’ve already shared in my videos. Send me an email at [email protected] and I’ll send you what I have.

I discovered finding an old newspaper article a few weeks ago that this was the place I went to when I was 3 years old in Sept 1997! I went here for a birthday party for my Uncles neighbor. I always remembered loving the ball pit at the time and remember they served pizza like Chuck E Cheese. I didn't go to Chuck E Cheese until Sept 1999. The location I went to was at the Roosevelt Mall in Philadelphia! I'm glad you got video of this, especially in the ball pit!

Good afternoon, it's wonderful to hear from you!! I sent your comment to my parents. They enjoy hearing from people in Germany! It is amazing that we can understand each other's dialect after hundreds of years of us living in Pennsylvania. In 1999, I visited Germany with my Schneck relatives, and we stopped at Trier and Kaiserslautern, not far from you. The Schnecks on our tour were able to use their dialect in southwestern Germany and northern Switzerland and the German people understood them. We enjoyed our time there very much. I would love to return to Germany one day. Thanks for watching our video!

That is so neat!! Nice to meet you! I looked back at the deeds, and discovered that Nathan bought this farm and 80 acres in April 1864, and then sold off 45 acres along with the house and outbuildings in November of that year to Abraham Geissinger, my ancestor. So Nathan and his family never actually lived at this farm. Nathan bought the original 80 acre farm from a Stahl family who had lived there. Do you happen to know where Nathan lived? It must have been close by. I found him buried in a small cemetery at a church nearby that I hadn't heard of before. He apparently left the Mennonite church.

I didn;t even know there was a coffee house like this. Maybe because I was too young to attend this type of event at that time period. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, there was a Christian coffee house in Easton called Abba Java that had been in a bagel shop. Unfortunately, it closed, but it was a cheap date night for a former boyfriend of mine and I.

My dad and I talked about Ironton last year when I was contacted by the school for any history we could share. Last year was the 100th anniversary of the school. My dad didn’t spend much time in Ironton back in those days. When he was growing up, Ironton was the school for many first and second generation kids from Eastern Europe, whose fathers worked in the industries in Ormrod and Cementon. Schnecksville school was mostly Pennsylvania Dutch farm kids. I was able to find some fascinating newspaper articles from the early days of Ironton school, if you would like those, send me a message through Facebook Messenger and I’ll send them to you. Thank you so much for watching and commenting! We enjoyed making this video very much, I think it is my favorite video we've done! Your story is intriguing. I hadn't heard of this before, and so I went to newspapers.com to search for it. I did find details that will help you in your search! First, Edwin A. Lauchnor (1879-1944), whose farm you lived on, was a brother to my great-grandfather, James Lauchnor (who owned a farm along the Coplay Creek in Schnecksville and then built a retirement house next to Neffs Bank). Until today I hadn't heard of James' brother, Ed. It's fascinating about Ed's connection to the famous Jack Mack. Jack was killed in 1924 when the car he was driving collided with a trolley car near Ed's farm. Here's what the newspaper reported: "... the accident happened about a quarter of a mile north of Neffsville on the trolley crossing just a few rods south of the farm of Ed. A. Lauchnor...the trolley runs upon private right of way crossing from the western to the eastern side of the road going southward.... The line-car was proceeding southward...Mr Mack was proceeding north at a high rate of speed..." I asked my dad and he has never heard of this story. If you would like to read the newspaper articles, contact me through Facebook Messenger and I will send you the articles. This was a tragic and horrific accident. I come across so many from that era, when cars were beautiful but far from safe, and collisions with trains and trolleys happened way too often.

And of course - Floyd Country Store at the beginning😊The mill is incredible, same the water system outside and the whole construction of the mill inside. It was a very hard und difficult way of living for the mountain people, it's not easy to imagine for us in nowadays. Most of the city folks had a very bad meaning of them, near ston age or something like this.
