Is there a way to run instanced OBJ comps through RayTK? I’ve just started using this amazing toolset, so I’m not very versed in it. SDFs are just DATs right?
@tekt0
@tekt0 4 ай бұрын
Good question. That's the #1 most requested feature. Currently it isn't possible to convert vertex-based geometry (SOPs, obj, fbx, etc) into an SDF with RayTK. I'm working on some approaches that might work, but it's challenging. This page gets into some detail about the differences: github.com/t3kt/raytk/issues/657 It is possible to use render compositing to combine traditional rendering with RayTK but there wouldn't be any interaction between the two for things like shadows. This video covers that approach: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e8uYqrejnayYiKc.html

There's a setting on the renderer "Show Background". If that is switched off, and there's a background field, it should do what you want.

Thanks for the great tool you build !!! it so much fun to play with it. Can you make a custom SDF let say in Hudini and then import to TD ?
@tekt0
@tekt0 Жыл бұрын
Good question. There are some key differences in how SDFs are represented in Houdini vs RayTK. Houdini represents an SDF as a grid of points with distance values attached to them. RayTK represents an SDF as a mathematical formula that can calculate a distance for any point in space. In theory you could have a RayTK operator with a "formula" that's basically just looking up data in a grid produced by Houdini. That works as long as the renderer doesn't ever need to know about positions outside the grid. When using raymarching, the renderer checks points all the way from the camera out into the scene until it hits something. There might be a way to do it but I haven't gotten the grid approach working with raymarching. However, for volumetric rendering (pointMapRender) where the renderer is given a single position and does calculations for that, this approach can work. I've successfully done it with an early variant of RayTK that's used for an LED volume.

@@sunhalosonia There isn't anything in that operator that should be dependent on unusual GPU features. I assume you've tried changing settings on the moduloPolar? @@sunhalosonia Maybe the camera is positioned somewhere that's intersecting with one of the spheres when it's using the Z axis. Make sure the camera is at 0,0,6. You can also try adjusting the rotation on the moduloPolar to see if that moves things so they aren't intersecting the camera.

You could use a speedGenerator to animate the Rotate parameter of the rotate4D. Select the rotate4D, ALT+SHIFT+R, animate with speed > Rotate. Then increase the value scale setting on the speedGenerator since angles are in degrees.

Thank you for adding this; The object ID mask is a game changer. I especially love that the ID is preserved despite upstream modifiers like a modulo 3D. Interesting idea. I'll have to take a look at that. You can also use a field to generate the ids so it could vary using a variable or something. But for that you might need to use a render select to grab the raw object id output and do your own masking
