Experience this every morning during commute. The speed limit is 80, there's a speed camera in my commute and every single morning all the drivers would slow down to 60-70 some times even 50 when they are closing to the camera, just why? Then there's a slight hill where traffic slows to 50-60 again, guys step on the gas man wth?? And we get to the 2 bends at the start and end of my commute, they maybe like a 60 degree bend. It's a slight bend imo, again people brake to 60-70 to clear it. WHY??

thats why im the best driver on the road. i single handedly smooth out the brake jam by hyper analyzing the future of the cars velocities in front of me and only accelerating if it wont cause spikes in my acceleration positively or negatively. i do what I can in a sea of morons.

Just stay out of the left lane, I can make it from Bellevue to Olympia in under an hour if you would stop riding the left lanes.

the root cause of traffic is humans and their inability to do the same speed ( as perfectly illustrated in this video here ). if we all used cruise control at 70 mph and didnt touch it until our exit, traffic jams would decrease MASSIVELY. but americans love being entitled to what is best for them, not what is best for the road.

Just proves what I've known for years: that slow drivers cause traffic jams. All is takes is ONE moron to brake for too long to cause everyone else behind him to bunch up. This happens in the video at 0:31 where the black car brakes for like 5 seconds for no reason. If you can't judge speed or distance while driving, then get off the road. If you accelerate to the speed limit at a snail's pace, get off the road. If you drive under the limit, get off the road. If your reaction time is pure garbage, get off the road. If you're a brake tapper, get off the road. And above all, if you're afraid of driving or driving quickly, then by god get off the road. All the NPCs will point to tailgating as the greatest boogeyman ever conceived when they don't realize it's their lack of skill that causes the problem. Guess what, if you're being tailgated, just speed up. It's the easiest thing in the world; I never have this problem. If you're the front runner at a traffic light, you best be flooring that gas pedal as soon as that green light hits so you can accelerate quickly to the limit. 99% of people have absolutely dogshit processing speed though so it'll never happen.

Whenever I'm in one of these I just put a big gap in front of me ( the stop start traffic ) and just roll along, the vehicles behind me the have to follow at the slow speed I'm going, but non of the vehicles behind have to stop and start all the time. If you were cycling you would do the same to preserve your energy, you can't get anywhere quicker by shooting forward, breaking, stopping and then starting again, but you can conserve fuel and save your brake pads and clutch.

This will honestly be one of the best bonuses to self-driving cars. You'll probably save 10s of minutes in rush hour

This happens on my route to work. A 4 lane highway splits with 2 lanes left, 2 lanes right. I need to go right. Our country drives on the left side of the road, so right lane is fast lane. The 2 right lanes are insanely slow up until the split, and then drive at the speed limit as soon as you're past the split. I realised it's because of this "imaginary" traffic jam, where the cars are backed up to a km before the turn for no apparent reason, then it magically clears up at/after the turn. To fix this: I drive in the second to left lane up until the traffic clears, then merge right. No one has to slow down behind me, and the traffic jam doesn't exist anymore for anyone.

Everyone in this video has no idea how to drive. If you can think more than 5 seconds into the future, you'll slow down and keep in motion rather than piling up. But to be fair, most people shouldn't be allowed to drive.

Traffic is like an accordion...

People tailgating is the main issue. And not leaving space for other traffic to move into. For example: You are at traffic lights and the roads ahead of you are blocked up. Your light turns green but instead of waiting behind the traffic light stop line, you decide to crawl forward a few yards. You are now blocking traffic coming from the sides at the crossroads and now there are stuck unable to proceed in a straight line because you are blocking the way. You have gained no advantage by moving past the traffic lights and are now obstructing other traffic. If you had stayed put at the green light, other traffic from your sides would be able to flow and you would still catch the vehicle ahead of you easily on the next traffic light cycle, when the queue has moved up slightly.

This is why car-centric infrastructure is extremely time-consuming and unsustainable.

I call this the hurry up an wait. If you try to fix the traffic for others by not coming to a complete stop then they pass you on the right and cut you off and increase the phantom traffic jam. Diamond lanes are terrible for causing this, people need out of their lane and will come to a complete stop to leave the lane. Now people in the fast lane are moving to the center lane and the center lane moves to the right lane and now people can't merge onto the highway.

It also helps to not get right up on the cars in front of you at a stoplight. When all the dummies do this, you have to fully wait for the person in front of you to clear so you can start moving. But if you leave a single car length in front of you, you can get up to speed with the person in front of you as soon as they start moving. If everyone did that, you'd probably get 5x as many people through a light cycle. But no, they all have to bunch up right at the front for whatever stupid reason. It's also dumb to not leave yourself a bit of an exit.

Just a few idiots ruin it for everyone else. Hope y’all happy
