I am looking at the eTrek SE. The only thing putting me off. Is the silent navigation. Does it actually have a speaker, if so could Garmin add the beeps via a future software update ?

I got the solar version thinking it would be a great unit for using for geocaching, and for on my bike, both daily and on longer tours. But is has one major flaw. The info boxes are tiny. So even with minimal information the current speed was far too small to read easily when riding on a bike when using the handlebar mount. Such a shame, as the endless battery makes it a perfect do everything gps for bike commuting, hiking etc etc. Hopefully the solar with endless battery finds its way into other garmin models soon.

Can’t you sync the inreach with the Garmin explore app and get the topo map (with navigation from the mini) on your phone? Also, you can use the navigation feature without a satellite subscription (or if the sub is suspended) which is often not mentioned.

Very useful. I'm generally using the TalkyToaster maps in Ireland on my gpsmap 67i, and they're fine. Also, as a backup, I'm using an app called "Memory-Map for all" on my iPhone. It has Ordnance Survey 1:50k maps of Ireland, which are older maps (2022), but most of the mountains haven't moved a bit.😉Browsing the maps on their website you need to check "show old versions" and then you can download it for free. It's actually very strange that these OSI Discovery maps can not be obtained digitally (as far as I know), only the paper versions are available. Not to mention anything 1:25k topo which is only available regionally from different mapping companies. Ireland is really falling behind in that regard, being such a fantastic walking / hiking country.

Hi Walter, you have to have added other activities to your watch first, if you tap the top right start stop button and then scroll down to the Green + add icon and select it, you then have a list of activities that you can add. Once you have added new activities i.e Run, Hike etc you should be able to choose these from the start stop button, we hope this helps, if you have purchased a watch from ourselves at GPS training we do offer 1 years email & telephone support from ourselves along with access to our own training videos. The contract renewal for my Defy shows 30/07/2024 on the bulitt website... Will this automatically renew at the higher rate through RDC? Ah, I see now that you don't ever respond to comments... sad.
@ukgpstraining
@ukgpstraining 10 күн бұрын
Sorry to you believe we are not answering comments on our KZfaq channel, I hope you reconsider as this is not the case. A UK business helping the world overcome the tech questions, I personally think we should be commended for this rather than critisised. Anyway moving on - Bullitt/ Motorola - renewing subscriptions - 1. If you have left your credit/ debit card in place in the subscription portal i.e. you have not removed this, it will automatically renew on your current plan (at the same price). So no action needed. 2. If you have removed your credit/ debit card details or want to change plans - - On the Bullitt app go to - three white lines (top Left) > Subscriptions and this takes you to the subscriptions portal (online) - Login - If you have a ‘active’ plan do not ‘+ add a new plan’, if this is what you want to do, without cancelling your old one - Manage > Actions > Cancel - If you are signing up for a new plan you will need your iccid code which you will find on the box your device came in I hope this helps.

Hmmm, I chose a GPSMAP 67i. Only because I was concerned by reports online about how the 700 would be difficult to use in wet weather conditions. I am happy with my 67i, and it has performed well on remote backcountry bikepacking tours. My only complaints are about Garmin’s ageing software user interfaces. Particularly when uploading RidewithGPS planned routes to the 67i. It is tediously cumbersome. What I do love is the InReach satellite messaging to keep my wife informed about my whereabouts. Thank you for your excellent videos. You have helped me get through the steep learning curve. 😊

Hi John...im a bit of a late comer to gour channel. I bought my etrex 32x about 2 years ago. I tried using the Garmin Base Camp, found it a bit iffy. Last week i typed in the the etrex32x to try and get a better grip of it, lo and behold...up popped your good self !!! Spent an afternoon watching the tutorials on KZfaq, and finally got to understand the garmin much better. Bonus is the OS Planner GPS Training provides, my confidence us now much better ( im a 67 year old and started wild camping 3 years, thanks to Paul Messner, Andy Wardle and Murray from Scotlands Mountain) now kooking forward to hitting the hikls with more confidence ( I'm quite proficient with a paper map and compass, just wanted the convenience of a hand held GPS)...cheers 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🥃🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🥾🥾

One thing I noticed is that it performs poorly in a forest. It wasn’t even all that overgrown . Every time I had a clear view, I was standing still but the map was moving as if to recoordinate. I’m pretty sure that my previous gpsmap 66st did better. You may want to give it a try and comapre it to a different gps unit.
@cyclenorthumberland
@cyclenorthumberland 23 күн бұрын
When standing still with this type of Garmin with the default auto compass setting, it is not the GPS signal that aligns or moves the map orientation but the electronic compass , once you start moving over approx 2.5mph it is then the satellite signal that aligns the map orientation. I would re-calibrate the electronic compass by pressing the menu button once whilst on the compass screen and selecting calibrate compass and follow on screen instructions. Potentially a very weak GPS signal could make the device think that you are moving but I have not seen a GPS signal drop that low in the outdoors to make this device show me moving over 2.5mph. You could next time you are in a similar location add a current speed field to a databox and see if it shows you moving around a speed of over 2.5mph, hope this helps, also for a stronger satellite lock make sure in setup - system you have multi gnss and multi band duel frequency both turned on 🙂

@@cyclenorthumberland Satelite System was GPS only and Multi-band off. I can’t imagine that’s the default setting, which leads me to the conclusion I messed up severely. @@gsf1200s There’s a vid on KZfaq testing that theory, by walking a track with three different devices and then checking the recorded trail. The phone didn’t do as well as the gpsmap. Also, there are several other reasons why you might prefer the gpsmap 67i. Phone is simply not an option in terms of reliability, battery life, control in bad weather conditions. When you’re out in the hills or some offroad “middle of nowhere” track, I wouldn’t even think of using just a phone.
