Thank you for an excellent breakdown of this pretty song. Your singing - which is great - also makes the lesson more complete. If I may suggest any other additions it would be the mastery Paul showed of modulating keys: from Gmaj to Gmin (for the Bb chord) in the intro; then the F#m and B7 chords are a puzzle (could they be in the B Mixolydian key?); lastly the chorus appears to be in F Mixolydian (to accommodate the Eb note in the Cminor chord. You allude to the transition of keys at 15:46 where the clever use of the D7 chord as a pivot from the F to G key makes the transition smooth. Wow and Paul did'nt know music theory or have access to it? Thank you for the lesson

I have to compliment Rob not only on his teaching but also his playing. I ve been playing and teaching for decades and I have come across excellent players in that time who don t teach that well and great teachers whose performances didn t exactly blow me away. What I like about Rob is he is teaching material that isn t over challenging and modelling it in such a way that you just have to pick up your guitar. I ve been playing all my life and he has that effect on me. Check out his other stuff.

Could you expand on what you meant by having that scale down 'in two different keys'? The notes were the same between both shapes, not sure how that works. I see this vid is 7 years old so anyone feel free to chime in.
@theperfectmonkey83073 күн бұрын
i honestly think it was a mistake. he might’ve meant to say, “now you have that scale down in 2 different shapes” hes in the key of Am in position one and when he starts teaching position 2 he says he is still in the key of Am. so probably an honest mistake.

Been playing this song for 10 years or so, and well. But J Swift cleaned up many parts & fills, and it sounds so much better now. He is my favorite teacher for sure. Always thorough, patient, and kind.
