You don’t need to rinse your kefir grains
@LivingGratefully
@LivingGratefully Күн бұрын
Let’s ferment milk with kefir grains. I get my grains from my friend Lisa. You can share your grains with others too! They multiply so you will have to get rid of some at some point - may as well give to a friend! Ingredients- • Kefir grains (available from health food stores, online (Amazon - had anyone bought from Amazon? I haven’t) or from a friend that’s where I get mine) • Fresh milk (any type: cow, goat, sheep, or plant-based) I use whole milk from Walmart Equipment - • A glass jar (metal can react with the grains) • A breathable cover (cheesecloth, coffee filter, or paper towel) and a rubber band (I use the plastic strainer with holes in it as my lid ) • A plastic or nylon strainer Instructions - 🥛 Add Kefir Grains: • Place 1-2 tablespoons of kefir grains into the jar. 🥛 Add Milk: • Pour milk into the jar, leaving some space at the top for the fermentation process. Cover and Ferment: • Cover the jar with the breathable material and secure it with a rubber band. Leave the jar at room temperature (ideally between 65-75°F or 18-24°C) for 12-48 hours. The fermentation time depends on the temperature and the desired flavor. Shorter fermentation results in a milder taste, while longer fermentation makes it tangier and thicker. 🥛 Strain the Kefir: • Once the kefir reaches the desired taste and consistency, strain it using the plastic or nylon strainer to separate the kefir grains from the liquid. Gently stir with a plastic or wooden spoon to help the liquid pass through the strainer. 🥛 Store the Kefir: • the strained kefir can be consumed immediately or stored in the fridge for up to a week. Reuse the Grains: • The kefir grains can be reused indefinitely. Rinse them with fresh, non-chlorinated water and repeat the process to make a new batch. Tips 🎯 • If you’re not making a new batch immediately, store the kefir grains in a small amount of milk in the refrigerator. This will keep them alive and ready for the next use. • Experiment with different fermentation times and types of milk to find the flavor and consistency you prefer. Flavoring (Optional) After fermentation, you can add 🍓 fruit, 🍯 honey, or other flavorings to the kefir. Simply mix them in and let the kefir sit in the fridge for another 24 hours to infuse the flavors. Enjoy your homemade kefir!

I can see the ring of the former stain. The problem with using soap is it lathers and is impossible to fully remove. It also attracts more dirt. It is better to use a carpet solution for spot stains, or dilute the hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, or baking soda on an older carpet or area rug and skip the soap. I wouldn't mess around with expensive carpets. 🇨🇦

Your 4 minute mark, I agree. Fine dust gets trapped between the gasket and cover because the gasket surface was not completely covered with adhesive. The gasket surface should have been 100% covered with adhesive or, as you suggested, none at all. The wet dust increases the time required to dry, looks as dirty as it is and promotes the formation of mold and who knows what else.

how does OIB compare to OKI?
@LivingGratefully
@LivingGratefully 24 күн бұрын
Hi! Great question! We love both beaches. We got married at OKI and went there for years. It’s more rustic is how I would describe it. Not as rustic as outerbanks, but more rustic than ocean isle. Ocean isle is smaller in my opinion. It seems like it takes less time to get from one end to the other. It also seems like oak island has gotten way more expensive than it used to be, but that may apply to OIB as well …. It applies to everything lol

We just bought one recently and I accidentally used it to pick up the dog hair in the bathroom after giving them a bath. Now every time we turn it on to vacuum it smells like wet dog. Any tips to remove the smell without completely disassembling it?

Hi there, dogs are the best :) what kind do you have? Assuming you have already done the other things (clean the bin, clean the filters, etc) here are a few tips I found on chat gpt that may help you! Thanks for watching!!
@LivingGratefully
@LivingGratefully 2 ай бұрын
Here are the other tips from chat gpt: Deodorize with Baking Soda: • Sprinkle a small amount of baking soda on the floor and vacuum it up. Baking soda is effective at neutralizing odors. • Alternatively, you can add a few teaspoons of baking soda to the vacuum bag or dustbin. 6. Use Essential Oils or Vacuum Cleaner Fresheners: • Put a few drops of your favorite essential oil on a cotton ball and place it inside the vacuum bag or dustbin. • Commercial vacuum cleaner fresheners can also be used; these are usually small scented beads or discs that you can place in the vacuum.

Our smelled like dog as well. The only solution was unscrewing those 4 torx screws and taking the dust cup apart. You wouldnt believe this stinky wet dirt inside. I still can’t get the smell out of the plastic 100% but it’s a lot better.
