I want to try Monkey Shoulder i hear thats a great entry point as a bourbon enjoyer and if that one still taste like a band aid too its not something that will break the bank and give it away or keep it as a mixer. Enjoying Redwood Empire pipe dream watchng this which is a great Californian bourbon with a nice fruitier pallet then most, its good.

I can't drink vodka, it makes me sick... I have had the "Vodka" made from grain, no problem, so in my book... made from grain, It's not vodka, really stupid that the world excepts calling it vodka.

Spelling Scotch or Japanese whisky with an "e" is a form of cultural imperialism. All you have to do is read the label and copy the spelling.

I have tried a few bottles of Scotch and really find it off-putting. Love bourbon. This difference for me is that Scotch has an antiseptic quality that I cannot stand. Bourbon has a nice sweet cinnamon palette that keeps me coming back.

It is not a way to drink vodka. Vodka isn't sipped, isn't swirled around mouth like whisky in searching of non existing tastes. Vodka is drunk straight from a shot glass and intemidentially after its burning taste is washed away with tea or some food (preferably fat or sour cucumbers). Vodka is drunk to get drunk, not to create some philosophy around it. That's the triumph of substance over form. That's how we drink it in Poland. Also, congrats for recognizing that sugar with alcohol causes problems. That's why I never mix vodka into some fancy cocktails, but I drink it pure. Also after vodka a man shouldn't drink some sweet things, like coke, juice or soda but tea (no sugar) or eat something fat (sausage, słonina etc. sour cucumbers, herring in oil).

I'm sticking with the Dewars, thank you very much. The Macallan does not taste 15 times better than the Dewars, and if. like me you only drink it on special occasions, by the end of the bottle my Dewars is 10 or 12 years old. So there's that. And, yes, I drink it neat and I rather like the burn/bite alomg with the peat.

I'm not sure that you could have told the difference between an $80 single malt and the $300 single malt. I agree that the really cheap blend is not going to taste anything like the expensive single malt. But top grade whiskeys are much harder to tell from their medium grade counterparts.

Scotch in general costs more because of shipping and handing. Scotland's highways are horrible for freight trucks, especially in the northern half, frequently very narrow, if not one lane, constantly fluctuating speed limits that rarely go above 60 mph. The more remote the distillery, the longer it takes to transport the supplies, even before it ever leaves the country. A $12 bottle of Evan Williams would likely cost $35 if it were made in Scotland.

Hey so this video popped up when typing in "difference between white dog and vodka?"and love corn texas vodka and love mellow corn whiskey, both corn mash bills. So basically white dog is just a less distilled vodka and whiskey is when added white dog to char barrel. So if understanding this right vodka is just a more filtered white dog. And white dog is what would be considered shine as well usually pot stilled. And i guess the only thing holding a potato vodka back thats aged and char barreled is the rules of whiskey/whisky from being such. Weird, you'd think itd be easier just to call anything not aged n barreled vodka, also guessing thats the same with rum as ive seen sugarcane based vodka too guessing thats just rum distilled to a point that sweet rum character has almost all but disappeared to neutral vodka. Am i close to understanding this 🤔
