I used to live in Thamesmead. My parents and I moved away to Suffolk in 2010. While I'm happy where we live now, I do have mixed feelings about the regeneration of Thamesmead. I do feel the new layout will give it a whole new breath of fresh air (though not sure if it'll improve anti-social behaviour in the area). It's how they should've been able to go about it back in the late 60s. But at the same time, I do feel a bit sad to see the old estate go. Will be especially sad when they eventually pull down our old house, 17 Wolvercote Road, Hinksey Path as my mum was the original tenant.

Great footage and excellent to see WW1/WW2 local listed buildings seen in this video will be incorporated and saved, they are the last surviving remains of the women munitions worker composition Establishment branch, within the former Royal Arsenal danger buildings area at Tripcock Point. Also features like the historical Twin Tumps, the two oval moated islands incorporated into the landscape to preserve important local history of Thamesmeads future landscape. RAH will share this video.

The old architecture was far better in my opinion . Thamesmead was unique , unlike anything else ! Now it’s just same old !!! Did he say parking permits ?? This is not inner city !!! that’s a piss take ! I’m not impressed with this regeneration project 👎🏻 mostly I’m not impressed with the majority of homes being for sale !! Especially with the amount of unscrupulous private landlords who will buy up and rent them out anyway and do as little maintenance as possible . This project in 40-50 years time will suffer the same fate as the original Thamesmead 👎🏻 Peabody are a private development company ! Need I say more ????

the design encouraged a lot of crime from what i've heard tho which may have been a major consideration into this

@@samh7140 I hear what you are saying but design doesn’t encourage crime , people do ! Guns don’t shoot on their own. This only became a problem in later years when Thamesmead was being used to dump the unemployed , alcoholic / drug addicted and pregnant young girls !!

Love watching were I grew up and know thamesmead as my childhood and teenage years is were I played and went too school there so many good memories . I used to do cross country running and still have my certificate for coming third for the borough bexlyheath. My school was st John Fisher primary school and I lived on redpoll way with my brother and my father. Is abbey woods still called abbey woods.. are the squirrels still red they used to be .

Until there is a railway station of some form (overground or DLR), Thamesmead will fail like it did in the past.

@@pauliepaul3697 Yeah , I get it , but it makes my teeth itch that we have a severe lack of council housing in this country and the councils solution to this is to sell to private developers which means even less housing for the not so well off !!

I was brought up in thamesmead in 1970s redpoll way and attended st. John Fisher primary school and had a wonderful childhood. Would definitely go back and live there I am a dinner lady and I remember my dinner ladies. The house I lived in was amazing compared to the flat I live in now.
