Just making one myself, do you think the tow point at CofG or fwd of CofG is best? Great idea I hadn’t thought of.
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes17 сағат бұрын
Hi Richard, now that's a great question, I've got a video coming out next weekend with the forward position, since then I've added a nose position and tried it out with indifferent results but I've yet to try the cg position. But this is the fun part testing and experimenting, cheers.

It's a heavy bird Ralph, airspeed on this model is quite high 🙂

Those twin lines will be preventing the tow glider from yawing. Try it with just one line on the top of the wing of the tow plane, as if it was a glider tug.

Fascinating project and thanks for mentioning my channel Cliff and yes, lots of Lidl build experience after 20 RC conversions now. Interesting to hear your thought processes putting this together. Love the idea of the wing tips as skids. I always put a tether on a camera mounted on an RC plane, they're usually worth more than my planes! Looking forward to seeing more video from this chase plane.

I'm not sure that two tow-lines will help with stability, especially if they're mounted a long way from the centre of lift/pressure/gravity.🤔 A pair of horses pulling a plough tend to be yoked very closely together to give the ploughman maximum control. So... When using the Lidl glider-drone (not your cute bumble-bee 🐝bottle-cam, which doesn't really fly), having the towing lines attached at the leading plane's wingtips puts a lot of asymmetric force on its balance if they're not perfectly matched left and right. And unless they can stretch elastically to provide some slight damping effect, the yanking oscillations from the glider-drone will tend to pull the leading plane aside and overpower your control inputs. With a single towing point - as with a full-sized glider tow-tug - the various forces should balance themselves out, letting the plane respond purely to your controls, and allow the camera drone (whether glider or bumble-bee) to find its own level without pulling the lead plane out of position. Er, possibly. Perhaps. Maybe... More experimentation, please - this is great content! 😁
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes4 күн бұрын
'Bumble bee bottle-cam' has a nice ring to it but I think I'll be putting it to bed, the future is Lidl I fancy! Thanks for your words Eleanor (you're very knowledgable, possibly, perhaps, maybe lol). There's definately more content on the way ... I'm getting there, cheers
