Where can I purchase that fuse? Auto parts store?
@sat103
@sat103 Күн бұрын
Yes, as along as it's minimum 2-amp rated and "quick blow" or "fast act" type ("slow blow" or "delayed" would cause the charger to burn up before offering protection). Search an auto parts site for "glass fuse" and they should show up. Make sure it's the correct length so it fits in the Garmin charger.

You can try dampening the contacts of a microSD card with DeoxIT D5 as shown in the video, insert the card in and out a few times and that might get the 2599 to recognize it - assuming the card is a FAT32 formatted 8GB, 16GB or 32GB. If it's over 32GB, the 2599 won't recognize that because that's SDXC and not SDHC.

I noticed that when you create routes in Garmin Basecamp using its trip planner, made stops and assigned a "layover" time on each stop and then transfer that route to the Garmin, the device will not take your custom times into account. I tried this on a DriveSmart 65 and 66. I haven't tried it on my old nuvi 2597 LMT. Not sure what those custom times are for if the devices do not use them/take them into account. Also on my 65 and 66, it will only show you the departure time of the route if you use Basecamp's trip planner.

Thanks…great video. Some comments/notes/questions: - With the Nuvis where you can pick the travel date I wonder if it uses traffic trends for those dates - It’s not intuitive ….example…why we search CATEGORIES when searching for locations like Guitar Center - As many functions are non intuitive, I wonder if there’s a hidden way on the 66 to schedule a time. Have you tried tapping on the Time or Distance parts on the screen? Not sure where my 66 is at the moment 😂. When I locate it I’ll give it some testing.

@@mariannelanger7423 I don't know whether trafficTrends is taken into account when calculating routes. No idea. "Categories" in Route Planner is basically the equivalent of "Search POIs" and is the same as a generic POI search from "Where To?" Good guess on trying the Time and Distance fields in the Route Planner, but they do not bring up any additional menus for scheduling.

Concerning DriveSmart66 Live Traffic: I have both DriveSmart55 & 66. Both have the latest maps and system updates installed. Drivesmart66 has only 2 route calculating options (Fastest | Shortest (by air). Missing Shortest (on road) option. No clue why there is a difference between both common devices. Lack of more route calculating options in DriveSmart comparing TomTom Go, iGo or many others apps for me is sick.

Do you have the same issue on your 66? It happens every 11 to 14 seconds where the unit will freeze for 1 to 2 seconds and "unfreeze." If you're navigating, the map will freeze for a few seconds and then unfreeze. Also happens when you are navigating the menu for example when you are scrolling through a list of settings, the unit will freeze for one to two seconds and then unfreeze. Great use case and would not have thought of that…..I’m going to try it out. Really is great in very familiar trips where you already know where you’re going. It allows you to overcome your selective perception and explore. Selective perception…..it’s said we only pick up on a small amount of things that are going on around us at a given time. May be as little as 5-10%. One of the best examples of this is if you are shopping for a new car. Before doing so you likely didn’t see many of that particular model car on the road. While shopping all of a sudden you see that car a LOT on the roadways. The same amount of that model car was always there. Now while shopping for it, you selectively perceive it and see more of them on the roadways. We tend to have a narrow band of what we focus on. This can expand that band.

Thanks. Great video and like the editing where you switch from the Nuvi to the Drive. I’m guessing the difference noted between the nuvis and Drive/DriveSmarts, etc., is due to processing power. The same demarcation exists in those units in the Up Ahead feature. In the nuvi’s you see just the icons for gas stations, banks, and restaurants. If you want details you have to touch the icon. In the Drives/DriveSmarts and forward, you see the actual name of the establishments in each of the three categories…..and it dynamically updates as you drive. It’s a quick update too….literally as soon as you pass the exit where a gas station was listed, it shows the next closest gas station. As mentioned previously I REALLY like that feature on long trips in unfamiliar territory. By seeing the name of the upcoming restaurant it may help gauge how rural the next area is. I recall seeing an upcoming Cracker Barrel in an area where I would have expected something like Cleets hot dog stand.
@sat103

Thanks! Good info to know. Was playing around with it and oddly it didn’t do a good job finding Costco’s along the route. It DID find things where those letters were in sequence such as “Cost containment co” or similar. So search seems different in this way versus just searching “where to” on normal startup screen. Makes me wonder what the distance parameters are for “along my route”. Based on above I believe it has to be VERY close to route. Years ago before before GPS’s got much better at searching with the advent of things like Foursquare, I used to add custom poi’s ( points of interest) for things like Costco, Walmart, etc. It was then possible to set a proximity alert and choose the distance. So, if you were driving and within say 2 miles of a Walmart the gps would notify you and you could choose to go there. Funny, I’m remembering one I had setup for Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives ( aka Triple D) and with that I used a further proximity alert as they are not as common. Fun thing to have on a road trip and I may set those up again. What’s old may become new again 😀 Would be nice if you could choose your own distance of what along my route means.
@sat103
@sat103 Ай бұрын
You technically can choose a distance along a route somewhat. If you tap "My Route" after tapping an Up Ahead category, two other options are "My Destination" and "Upcoming Exits". My Route searches near where you are, Upcoming Exits searches close to highway exits, My Destination searches near the end of the route. These same search options are in the DS66 except My Route is replaced with a pin icon to the left of the search field. Edit: You can try this for Costco - while the route is active, go back to Where To? > Categories, tap the black location box (right of the search field on older models, left of search field on DS66), change to My Active Route, then Categories > Shopping > All Shopping and search Costco there. That may give better results.

Thanks …..good info to know. I’ve been simulating on a DriveSmart 51. I don’t see the My Route options or the pin icon in Up Ahead. While playing around with it I did see the pin icon in the regular ( not up ahead) search box. That normally shows search near My Current Location but by hitting the pin you can switch to Upcoming Exits or My Destination. I would never have known that without your info. I tried the suggestion for Costco and had the same result. Must be that a Costco is too far from the route. Meanwhile if I use google maps and search for Costco near the destination I see one and it’s slightly off route. You could easily add Costco as a stop and I estimate it would add about 5 minutes to the route. IMHO, it would be nice if selecting a max proximity were an option. I’m likely to continue my old ways….use google maps to search and then enter that in the Garmin. Not ideal but faster than other method. I may also look into the poi databases and creating proximity alerts again. Do appreciate your videos. For anything other than basic searching the Garmins are not overly intuitive and your videos provide good information

Thanks! Good info to know. It’s also why I prefer “Up Ahead” showing versus the turns list. I like the quick ability to see what’s coming up. I do understand where the turns list is useful as well, especially in places where you may have to make several quick turns. I like seeing all of the gas stations listed along the route. Makes it easy to locate a favorite gas station brand. Some gas stations have good eats 😅. I’m guessing there might be a way to specifically show only your favorite brand gas stations along the route. Let’s use grocery stores as an example…how would you show all Publix stations along the route?
@sat103

I believe the search field at 3:32 when the gas station list is displayed will allow to search for your preferred store. Publix stores (or any other store name) would most likely be available from an Up Ahead "Custom Search", although I'm not certain how well that would work on long trips. Edit: Yes, an Up Ahead Custom Search works. Tried it using the 2497 on a very long test route from TX to FL and it did find the nearest Publix on route. It was over 400 miles away but it found it. imgur.com/a/79r5uJv

Thank you for outlining the main steps of the process. I followed the same steps on the 86 (slightly different interface but same functionality though) and found that although I can add gas stations along my hypothetical 350-mile route, there appears to be a limit on the number of stations the software can actually display. In fact, it shows 50 stations - (and it seems that this is the max number allowed per search) and they are all clustered near the starting point (I wish the software could spread out 54 Gas Stations results over the 350 miles route highlighting for example only major Gas Station/Or better Service Areas which would be way more than enough to choose from). The area where the route starts is densely populated, with hundreds of gas stations within a few miles. Some locations listed by Garmin as gas stations are actually not, and they are not very close to the route anyway. I have tried other ways to add gas stations along the route but the options are either at the beginning or to the end (nothing in between). My main objective is to be able to create long routes and add Gas Stations or Service Areas stops ahead of time and before beginning the trip. I may need to experiment with customized categories, something you have covered in an excellent video-to define a list of gas stations and service areas along the route and apply it to the active route (not sure if it is possible). I will share my findings.
