When you practice bagua the area can be as large or small as you want. such as an open field is fully covered and a meditation cushion has plenty of room. Step on the square don't walk the circle.

What I like about the bagua practitioner is his understanding of his art, he knows how to use it and thinks for himself. interestingly enough most kung fu styles have only one unarmed form and multiple weapons forms, the weapons forms have unarmed applications and the unarmed hands form has typically split 50/50 one striking and wrestling. understanding is extremely important to kung fu and any other fighting style or system, to which this guy does flawlessly.

U understand fajin, structure, footwork better than most sifus. Amazing. This goes to show it is the practitioner that makes the art, not the style.

This is a great exercise in hand fighting and controlling the range just before a clinch, but i dont know that sparring is the right term for it. This looks more directly applicable to stabdup grappling than to striking since very few strikes are actually being thrown

That;s really good kung fu. It's hard to find good sparring videos like this one and i don't think I've ever gotten a chance to see bagua displayed so well in this context. excellent work. And I love the way you just rattle off principles as they are exhibited in your execution.

Always did friendly spar with real strik arts, if not hospital were the best option :) amazing... guess place its not small he will use low kicks and you too will spin and kick. You're tactic to avoid his elbows down (that guess use kind yi quan energy to push and unbalance work) awesome. And the best thing that tactics born without even think...

This is so cool, my inner child is satisfied officially, doing a but of boxing and k1 kickBoxing I was always told those phony bolony kung fu guys don't know anything, Yet the thing is we all grew up with the jackie chan movies, and kung fu panda, and these ancient martial arts and now I see, Not only that they work but a bagua zhange practioner and a wing chun guy actually fighting just like the movies, My inner child is officially rewarded lol

Good morning teacher, I want to learn your baguazhang, I have some questions, can I send you an email and what is your baguazhang lineage?
Love to see exchanges like this! Even friendly sparring like this can help to improve and test what you train.

Barely a club quality boxer and he easily bested the Bagua practitioner. The TCMA guy was wrapped up in trying to "do Bagua" rather than move/attack and allow his body to move as trained. He basically trapped himself in a stylized box of his own creation.

With sticking energy, push hands skills, the ability to subdue an opponent when sinking/relaxing the Qi, is a lost skill that had been a portion of many internal styles. Adam Mizner teaches how to use Qi to subdue your opponent. This skill, in the internal arts, was always the first skill taught. Standing in some pose, using the inward looking process to build the Qi structure. Sun Lu Tang, in his history portion in his books on Bagua and Xing Yi, explains the first teachings he received in Xing Yi. San Ti Shi stance training to develop internal strength, Qi. When Sun Lu Tang's internal energy was satisfactorily present, approximately one year of stance training only, then his teacher began to teach him Five Element Fist.

Very good. I can see you've spent years training in Pa Kua. Perhaps you may want to try moving from a neutral stance, arms down by your sides. (I know, I know.) And use the changes offensively , see their shuai jiao roots. One more thing I'm sure you are aware, but perhaps not. "Power comes out of technique, it doesn't go into it." All the best to you and yours. Respects. Laoshr #60 Ching Yi Kung Fu Association

This is pretty much one of the only videos on KZfaq where you have a kung fu guy that doesn't transform into a kickboxer during sparring. Kudos.
@aarkproductions7 ай бұрын
Right but for me, using kung fu in a fight, I'm not going to do some sort of fancy hand stuff if most of that in Shaolin atleast is used within the context of wrestling and grappling, So the reason I'll spar a boxer with a boxing guard is because you have that same guard in Shaolin, real kung fu is going to look like kickboxing at some point because the fancier forms are not meant for stances, they're meant for grappling
