Rubenstein was recording in a studio, later in his life. During a break in the recording, one of the technicians came over to him and meekly pointed out a place where he had played a wrong note. Rubenstein smiled and said “only ONE mistake….GOTT SAI DANK!”

The younger Horiwitz played the most difficult pieces flawlessly. I believe that a technical error here and there from a pianist aged over 80 in a live concert is quite acceptable.
