Directed here after commenting on your 9019 review. That Sheaffer is indeed a fine looking thing in yellow. This video nicely demonstrates the relative sizes and features of all the Dadao series pens. I’m not sure that the heartbeat nib has any additional functionality but it surely looks good and I even purchased a Century 100 with one of these installed. My X159 has now arrived in gloss black and I’m currently obsessed with it - and my X750’s. It’s a very smooth writer and looks like it ought to cost a lot more. Jinhao is certainly on the right track though, with the 9019 converter system and it’s minimal aesthetic. I can see these being go-to pens for many. I’m probably going to order one in ivory next. I’m a bit ham-fisted, and arthritic so tend to prefer the larger pens. Subscribed! 👍🏻

I have one of these in yellow, which doesn’t appear to be a common offering. I do like the new design, large-capacity filling system and it writes well. It even has the heartbeat nib. But it’s very plain and somewhat underwhelming. Functionally it is great, but lacks the pizzazz of their other offerings such as the awesome X750 or even the solid and reliable 159. Waiting for an X159 to arrive, but reviews of these are somewhat mixed. But these are just my opinions. That teal blue does look nice, and it is a decent pen. On the Century 100, I collect these just for the neat colour combinations. 👍🏻

In this video I take a look at the recent colors, including the Yellow -- which reminded me of a Sheaffer from long ago: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qKxdlreGndjcpYE.html I've come to really like the simplicity of the 90.. series designs, as they're so reminiscent of the the uber-expensive Namiki pens from Japan. I've sold the 159 for close to 20 years, so agree with you there. Sometimes I prefer the weight-in-hand of an all-metal pen, and the shield logo on the clip never bothered me. LOL

I like the Asvine V200 but it has a curious habit of needing a jiggle to feed the ink down to the nib, even when the stopper is open. This is not something experienced with my TWSBI Vac700 or Pilot Custom 823. I don't think this is a design flaw, it could be some mislocated silicon grease. The V200 nib is terrific. Thank you for the review - strange voice and all!
@HisNibs1
@HisNibs1 Ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! Yes, Asvine nibs have been very consistently good. If you really think the necessary jiggling is not related to the positioning of the plunger-end, then rather than silicone grease residue (which would tend to enhance flow), there may still be some manufacturing oils in the barrel. Have you done a thorough rinsing with a drop of dishwashing detergent in a cup of plain water (or whatever similar formula you prefer to use)? I used the DEMON voice for that last sentence. LOL

Empathy for your new experience of sciatica. I went through it for nearly a year many years ago. Many recover without surgery-I hope you’re among this majority-but I did not. It seemed miraculous when the surgery finally removed the pain, which never returned.

Thanks very much Catherine. Mine started in November and for about 6 weeks the pain was unrelenting (which you know about!). I then got Robin McKenzie's book "Treat Your Own Back", which started me on the road to recovery. If you don't know him, he's still the physical therapist's 'Guru", having passed away about 10 years ago. He was from New Zealand. I'm now going to PT as well and making real progress. I'm so glad that you found a solution for yourself. You might want to take a look at the McKenzie book amzn.to/3QJK9pl as well at some point, as his exercises are not only for the acute stage, but also to prevent any reoccurrence as we age.

My Osprey Milano chased black ebonite with the EEF steel nib in gold finish with gold finished clip arrived yesterday from Austin, Texas. Osprey seems to have moved from California to Texas, as many others also have. My impressions as compared to Norman’s: ✒️Yes, my threaded cap does not align the clip to the nib when posted also. After several attempts it seems that the threads start at three places 120 degrees apart. The only straight alignment was 180 degrees off with the clip exactly opposite the nib. I don’t usually post, but this pen is light enough to want to post. ✒️I love the pocket clip with the rotating ball. I wear my pens (except for my Kaweco Brass Sport) in my shirt pocket and this Osprey goes in easily and stays put. Only my Conklin All-American spring clip works as well. ✒️I anticipated that the EEF nib might have scratchy feedback and it does a bit. However, I write rather small with small loops, so it is worth putting up with some feedback. This is mitigated somewhat if I use only high-grade paper, such as my Clairefontaine 90 g/m2 or my Rhoda 80 g/m2. I looked at my nib with my loupe and the tines appeared to be aligned together. ✒️For inking I have started my Osprey out with Private Reserve Black Magic Blue in the recently introduced cartridge form. I prefer cartridges and use converters mostly for cleaning. The ink flow of this nib is good, though I have found Private Reserve to be rather wet. ✒️The overall appearance of the pen is impressive. I wanted a retro-1920’s styled pen to go with some of my Peaky Blinders-era dress-up suits and club collar dress shirts and my antique gold cased Hamilton and Elgin and Hampden pocket watches and chains. Authentic century-old Waterman and Sheaffer ebonite pens restored with new sacs and 14K and 18K gold nibs are nice and I might go there some day, but well preserved specimens are pricey and one has to patiently hunt for a good deal. For now, the best bang-for-the-buck retro-style pen that I have found with the convenience of cartridge/converter choice is this Osprey. ✒️When ordering this pen I communicated to the company electronically some of the difficulties I had encountered with their eBay site and got a useful reply in reasonable time. Osprey seems to have good commitment to customer service. So, I rate this purchase as positive and with usage the nib’s feedback should smooth out. I think I’ll enjoy this pen.

I really love the huge converter in the 9019 and now the 9016. It changes everything. This converter can be removed and swapped out and has a capacity larger than many built-in piston fillers. I would love to see additional pen models with it, and I would also like to see the converter sold separately with a screw-on cap to seal it. That way, filled converters could be stored separately for travel or just to be able to easily switch inks without a lot of wastage. Who would need a piston-filler then? Just pack up your choice of filled converters with favorite inks and you’re set with no worry of running out even away from home. I really like my Jinhao 9016. My first one was a gorgeous transparent amber. And it has a giant converter! People for whom the 9019 is just too uncomfortably big will probably like the 9016 better. Easier to carry around too. Love both sizes. Looking forward to seeing what Jinhao does next with these great converters.

I have the N11 in green with a fine nib and in the same “rhombus” (aka “lozenge” in some descriptions) pattern, and I noticed the same sharp edge around the finial that you point out. I’ve not cut myself on it, but it’s jarring. Otherwise, I like this well-made pen. Mine has an ebonite feed and good flow. I like the pen’s balance, size and weight and the nib is a smooth writer. I wonder what is going on with the missing O ring on the N9. Like you, I suspect it is accidentally missing, not deliberately omitted. Edited to add: I watched closely in the InkQuiring Minds video review on the N9 and could not see an O ring when the cartridge converter was revealed under the barrel.

I usually go for Western <M>, but decided to give a <F> a try with the Asvine P20. I find it (unexpectedly) dry. I had a choice of buying an EF F M nibs/feeds for $30 to retrofit the <M> or another pen with the <M> nib for $40. Decided better value to buy another pen with <M> nib. I have to say I was disappointed with the <F> version with occasional skipping. The build quality of the pen itself, I agree with your review, excellent and the two acrylics I have / will have (Galaxy/Amber), the colours are great. BUT I am still disappointed with the performance of the <F> nib. I look forward to trying out the <M> nib.

Hi Kevin. As you've no doubt experienced, nibs can be highly individualistic. Increasing ink flow to a nib is the most basic adjustment that one can perform and one I think all FP users should know. I'd suggest searching here on YT, for something like 'increasing ink flow in a nib', or something similar. You'll find tons of videos detailing the procedures. Good luck.

@@HisNibs1 Quick update: The Asvine P20 Medium arrived yesterday. IMHO the Medium is a far nicer writer than the Fine. There is little to differentiate the two looking at line widths with the naked eye, but the medium is definitely smoother with a hint of feedback and puts down (again IMHO) noticeably more ink (yes I know it's a Medium) that I also cannot get to tramline even with some pressure. I will use the Fine when I need a marginally Finer line, but I can see the Amber Medium being a go to pen.
