Which kayak would you guy choice for your tandem kayak an Ocean Malibu xl or a twin heron ?? Please help me to make my mind 😅😅 I want to buy a tandem but why would be the best ? 😅
@OldTownCanoeKayak5 күн бұрын
It depends where and how you plan to use it. The Malibu XL performs better in choppier, open waters while the Twin Heron performs best in calmer conditions. Also, it is important to consider whether you prefer a sit-in or sit-on-top style. Both models have the option to paddle solo - the Auto Trim hull of the Twin Heron allows it to be paddled solo from the stern and the Malibu XL has a molded-in center seat for a third person or solo paddler. Hope this helps!

Is the carrying yoke necessary for stability or can it be removed for added space
@OldTownCanoeKayak5 күн бұрын
The yoke is important in keeping the integrity of the hull. We don't recommend removing it.

I'm looking into getting a kayak and doing tournaments hopefully in the near future. Silly question,do you personally run a fish finder?
@OldTownCanoeKayak10 күн бұрын
I don't if I am just leisure fishing, but definitely do if tournament fishing. I recommend something small and easy to use like a Humminbird Helix 7.

I have AP136 on trailer with bunks. I live in Northern California plenty of sunshine and occasional rain. Is it safe to store outside with just a cover? I use it about twice a month or more. Do I have to store it deck side down? Thank you
@OldTownCanoeKayak10 күн бұрын
You can store it deck side up or down, so long as it is properly supported by distributing the weight of the hull. Furthermore, it is best if your cover does not touch the hull to prevent trapping moisture (unless it is a breathable material). Hope this helps!

I know this is standard procedure but the concept is flawed. It is the twisting motion coming up onto the yoke that is a chiropractor’s dream to increase his bank account. As some of your commenters have said, turn the canoe upside down on the ground, then pick up an end and walk your way up to the yoke. No back destroying twisting. I know there are rare occasions where a rocky shore makes this method difficult, but the standard method as shown has several times injured me.

Unfortunately my AP 120 is being banished to the backyard here in Phoenix. I see that lateral support is recommended since it will be stored upside down, but not sure how that is done. Do you have instructions on how to approach this?

I have an Old Town Sportsman 106 PDL being stored suspended with two kayak straps deck-side up. What are the downsides of doing this?
@OldTownCanoeKayakАй бұрын
Even though it's a sit-on-top, storing deck-side-up (especially if outside or in a garage) can allow moisture to accumulate in the nooks and crannies of your kayak. Once there, it can freeze and expand, causing damage to the hull.

My biggest concern is power drain. I use an outboard that doesn't charge my 12v deep cycle battery, so I have to depend on just that battery for starting my 25hp motor and running any electronics I may have. Plus I'm old and need a larger screen for visibility. My main targets are catfish, crappie and open water hybrids and/or sand bass, in that order.
@OldTownCanoeKayakАй бұрын
One nice thing about kayaks is that they typically have much less components needing power, so your fish finder will last much longer when out on the water.
@justdoingitjim7095Ай бұрын
@@OldTownCanoeKayak I've owned two Old Town canoes in the past, so I understand. The only power drain on this boat is starting the motor. I've never went out at night, so the lights never get used. I wish someone would do a video about the best fish finders according to their power consumption.
@flimmaytinstone8980Ай бұрын
I have the old town 106 minn kota. Love it. I wish old town would just make the pdl drive available for al of their kayaks. There are plenty of people out there willing to pay for it. The big water is too big for me. I don’t want to have to trailer it and it’s too heavy to put in a pickup. Old town makes the best fishing kayaks by far.
@OldTownCanoeKayakАй бұрын
Thanks for the kind words and your support! As for the interchangeable propulsion, our PDL and Power drives are optimized to work in their specific hulls. Because of this, they are different sizes and thus require different size cutouts. Therefore, we are not able to offer the PDL drive on its own for owners of other models.

Is aluminum not good?
@OldTownCanoeKayakАй бұрын
As with any material type, there is tradeoffs. Aluminum canoes are economical and durable, however they tend to be heavier, noisy, and stick to rocks if slid over them.
@jasonmachado4620Ай бұрын
Does this void the warranty?
@OldTownCanoeKayakАй бұрын
As mentioned in the video, any of the mods that involve drilling into the hull of the kayak does in fact void the warranty. However, the pre-drilled accessory tracks allow for rigging that does not involve voiding the warranty. Hope this helps!

If you have a sit in/sea/touring kayak I’d recommend supporting it at the two points where the bulkheads are as they offer a bit more strength vs the other sections of the kayak.

How many hours do those batteries last you?
@OldTownCanoeKayakАй бұрын
The life of your battery will depend on many factors including the type of battery you are using, whether or not you are also running electronics from it, wind and current you are facing, and so on. However, most batteries will last you at least a full day on the water in normal conditions.
