I am an old way thinker of freestyles come straight off the dome in the moment. I do understand what you are saying about written can be freestyling but in order for me to get behind that, the written can't be changed and must be written all at the same time. Once modified or altered, its a written song. Once you start practicing the same freestyle, adjusting cadence, timing, pattern, etc.. its now modified (not free anymore) and a song imo. A freestyle is original content (old beat or new beat or no beat) right from the rip, off the dome, in the moment. Mack goes next level by expanding his freestyles talking about the words he is given, not just using the word once or twice, and then also brings the person and the environment in the background into his freestyle which not only makes his freestyles unique but makes his freestyles personal and engaging with his audience. H Mack is the straight 🐐 of freestyle rap!!!!

Understandable what your saying. But a song no, a song would require hook, breaks, chorus…stuff like that…taping for idk lets says 3 minutes straight to no particular subject matter and random cadences even though the person may have gone back and changed a few words here and there can still be considered a freestyle. I get what you mean “yea off the dome” but as long as it follows the principles of it being free of style and pertaining to no particular subject…its still qualifies as a freestyle. Check what H. Mack says kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q7-Dpb1409XSepc.htmlsi=p4GwxevhRj6sEhvP

No, that’s wrong, Drake never said anything to Kendrick before the Control verse dropped. It wasn’t a diss it was really to inspire the competition in hip hop again, but others took it as a shot/diss towards them. But before that…Kendrick and Drake really didn’t have any bad intentions towards each other. Please tell me what Drake said on that album that was a diss to Kendrick.

@@Brooklyn_OchoYou’re right but instead of Drake rapping back he was in interviews dissing Kendrick instead of rapping, he was downplaying him in many interviews. Then Drake first shot was in nothing was the same and that’s why Kendrick use nothing was the same in the BET cypher. But anyway they both got paid out of it. I’m just going to leave you with this check out “What’s the dirt” he breakdown where Drake vs Kendrick started and how. Keep up the good work though.

@lovinglife7317 Kendrick only used nothing was the same because it was a play off the control verse. Nothing was the same since they dropped control and tucked a sensitive rapper back in his pajama clothes…that was a play on the album name and Drakes reaction to his control verse. They really didn’t have animosity before that.

...also, In regards to your freestyle philosophy. You are correct in both your thoughts and statement regarding Harry's position being the same as yours (and mine). Seeing as I'm an old head I'd like to add Additional perspective. As you (and Harry) have mentioned, yes, freestyle did start out being fully "improvisational". Originally in the later 90s when freestylimg started to become popular in the mainstream, the Freestyles were mostly Acapella. Very artsy and poetic. They were rough around the edges at best but impressive due to the skill of semi improvising with semi flow and slanted rymes. Once Rap City The Basement started doing freestyle segments with artists, it kind of exploded. Then it became a bit of a fad that you werent a "real MC if you couldnt freestyle". Thats when you had big name rappers coming on with pre-canned bars, segments of older rymes mixed with observations and some new rymes, over beats. They didnt want to be looked at as fake MCs. I recall Snoop being one of the first to do that in the 90s. Not great at improvs at the time. There was a lot of lottie dotties and parties with bacardi lol. Regardless though, that approach by rappers was much more polished sounding and became more common into the mid 2000s and ultimately the more popular form of freestyling. It was Better for tv and also recieved better by the viewers. It had more energy, it sounded better AND you got new bars from your favorite rappers. It was a win win. Eventually i think even 106 & park had some freestylimg. That is kind of how the diverging philosophies began their evolution. Of course you have all the famous freestylers between then and now who made their contributions. Wild n out which i assume is at least partially staged but entertaining. Now we got Harry Mack who has come along and put it all together in a rediculously mind blowing way. It took me quite few videos to believe it wasnt some how fake. Dude is a Martian👽

Thank you for your input on the subject! Man do I miss Rap City the Basement! It was too DOPE for the culture! But yea for sure the bars on there were pre written or used elsewhere (albums, mixtapes, guest features) but nonetheless…some of them were CLASSICS!

I think if anyone who is doing written as "freestyle" it's a fair assessment to say they still have a lot of talent. However I guarantee you if every single person who does that could possibly just do it off the dome they would be doing that. Written may be a form of freestyle but its on a lower level to people coming straight off the dome. Also he can see the beat flowing on his monitor as well while he's in the studio.so he can see the peaks and troughs of the beat as they are coming.

Rap can be compared to comedy. The majority of it is pre-written and rehearsed. Freestyle much like improv is in the moment! That doesn't make it better or even more difficult just different. This is a fact that doesn't change over time. You can Freestyle anything, once it's memorized and repeated, it's no longer a Freestyle!
@Brooklyn_Ocho
@Brooklyn_Ocho 20 күн бұрын
No, this is a wrong way to think of it. Even Harry Mack himself said a freestyle can be a written. So to dance…in the Olympics when they say a freestyle dance…you think them people didn’t preform that/practice that routine multiple times? Every freestyle Lil Wayne has done to someone’s beat you think he didn’t go over the lines multiple time taking out what he didn’t like or saying certain parts over to make it sound better? Everything Coast Contra has freestyled to isn’t considered a freestyle because they wrote it?
