I just bought one of these basses, nice bass, needs some flats and a high mass bridge. The stock pickup is very hot imo, it really changes when you back off the volume. Every comparison is 100% on volume and only varies the tone. Turn down the volume and use your eq on your amp and no need to change the pickup IMO. Rock on, great p bass, love the belly cut and arm contour.

Too sad this demo isn't in EADG, because it gives a timber that we are all used to hear... but in Active the '74 are more defined, but nothing HUGE

Can you play over the same pickup when you change between the strings? First set you're on the bridge. Second set you're in between the two pups...

Hey! I have a Fender 51 P-Bass Reissue(CIJ), and I'm hoping to upgrade it. Anyone have any suggestions for what to get? Basically I'm unhappy with the stock pickup. I find that the stock pickup almost seems to distort on some hits, almost like it can't handle the output. It's not every hit, but it's more like, say you're picking a single note straight, at a fairly even velocity, certain hits just jump out distorted sounding. I dunno how to describe it other than almost like it's clipping/distorting/saturating. Also I've played with every pickup height, and nothing helps. I've also had run across this issue on other basses, and to prove to myself I wasn't crazy I went to a music store, found a newer P-Bass that had the symptom/issue, grabbed 2 other P Basses, exact same model, and I think same pickup, but point is I used them all through the exact same Chain(cable, amp etc), played the same riffs etc. Just wondering if anyones either come across this, and if they know why it might happen? Basically everyone I ask just looks at me like I'm an idiot lol, but I have played many basses that don't seem to do it at all, and a handful now that do. Also it's not like somethings broken, like it still sounds okay, and most people probably wouldn't notice. It's somewhat more of a subtle thing, but compared to a bass that's not doing it, I def notice it, especially in a recording environment. Live it wouldn't even matter really, but I want to use this Bass in the Studio because it plays amazingly well, and I love the tone, but it just isn't even in the harmonics/output, and certain hits jump out distorted.

@@johngeddes7894 Thanks bro! Actually those look awesome! I think I'll try them. A bit of a rant, but, the main problem I have, and every time I try talk about it, no one ever gets me, but basically it's something I've encountered on not only my 51 RI, but on some other basses too. It's a hard thing to explain the actual sound/behaviour, but basically in simple terms the pickup will actually sound like its crunchy/distorting, but only on some hits. It's almost like it's just inherent in some pickups, and not even in some models, but literally just some pickups, but some models may be more prone to it, I dunno. Once I was at a music store, and noticed a USA P-Bass was sounding the same way, so I grabbed another one, exact same model, (and pickups I think), and it was totally fine. Stayed clean/articulate, and same rig and everything. I'ts odd too, that on pickups I've noticed that have this issue, you don't even have to be playing hard at all. Like you can pluck/pick a note even fairly light, and it will just sound weird on some hits. The dude at the store when I was trying to get his opinion just said "Thats the P-Bass sound ", but I don't buy it. I'm just ranting because I'm still hoping to find someone one day that understands what I mean lol. Basically, it's such an issue for me that I literally feel like I cant record with this bass, or a bass that has pickups that do this.

I play by a pretty good ear... been know to miss one note from time to time. Except some would never believe I was a musician (weekend/ full time) because in a blind test I can only tell the difference in real old strings and new ones? Type, size, brand is never heard by my ears. That's the honest truth. Anyone else like me?

Byc moze sa to skutki "podrozy" jej.

Very similar, original has more low end. Also, I am not entirely sure if the bass tone needs to have a such refined top end (which all these new pickups seem to add) Yes extra resolution is good but in the mix unless it’s a slap type bass we don’t really want a glassy treble on bass. Give me a refined low end. Im happy.

I also found fewer differences than expected.The difference between the Cobalts and the Flats should have been *huge*, which it certainly is not and makes me wonder what is masking that difference.

@MIVProductionStudio
@MIVProductionStudio Жыл бұрын
