it is your white blinds that eff up the focus. the San Mai or laminated steel is tougher under lateral stress. it can take 20-30% more bending. And that is important in the cold. Here in Norway, we have done the same for 1000 years. But this one is made in Japan.

If you havent tested them after doing this how in the world could you claim it to be a good sharpening technique. If this thing cant keep a 15 degree angle then it is ruining your katana. The katanas edge should be 15 degrees no more no less.

Cracks me up. all these master blacksmiths, sword sharpeners/polishers, masters of kenjutsu etc. plus i bet their swords are cheaper than those and they cappin like they have something special when its a cookie cutter katana made in longquan just like ours lol - self awareness is lackin in them. i just wanted to give ya props for being a trooper despite the window lickers

Yessir! Glad to hear from you. Very thoughtful. Yes, so much has changed. It is truly sad, agreed. I hope you’re doing well too! And yes, I still love my knives. I quit doing the vids bc wasn’t getting any real traction with YT community as I did all the vids unscripted and unedited. Idc. The knife hobby is too expensive these days for me to keep buying for nothing. I have a great lil collection of my favorite fixed blades & folders!

Well it sounds like they may have each a different edge grind from the factory. My Tops generally do better after all this time, & rust less too. I just received my CPM-3V Master Hunter this week. Took over a year on backorder. It is now made in Taiwan, no more Italy. The spine is also alot thicker all the way to the tip than the previous 3V iterations. The Italian model with the black diamond coating was very thin after a quarter of the way tapering to a very thin tip. Compared to my VG1, this 3V model is even thicker out to the tip. And like the VG1, the 3V came out of the box extremely sharp. What a wonderful surprise to see the positive changes to the Master Hunter after waiting so long for it to arrive.

Great video !! I can’t believe that I am just getting this blade now . I have a slew of Cold Steel and then the other day , I was surfing online for another blade to add to the collection, and I found the CS San Mai version for like $80 . ( I had a store credit and only wound up paying like $40 ). I was thinking about the CPM version but I love the San Mai Trailmaster soooo much , and the SRK in San Mai , that I just went with what I know . Yes I do believe the CPM is a much better steel but like you said , I am attracted to that thicker spine . I don’t baton with any of my knives to be honest . I have in the past but I feel that it’s really unnecessary ( that’s what a hatchet or axe is for ). So anyway I’m very satisfied with the San Mai . Extremely sharp out of the box . Love that handle !! ( I made a video on some very similar models by Muela …. I call them “ distant cousins to the CS Trailmaster “ haha . Check them out when you get a chance . Anyway I really appreciate this post . Hope all is well on your end . Have a great weekend 🤠

I prefer a straight forward blade design. I understand the desire of a knife designer to make it his own but functionally it usually limits the knife,imo. Ive lost interest in jimping.I just dont have problems with my thumb sliding off vs the discomfort most infllict plus they are stress risers, weakening the knife. This knife has it down most of the spine eliminating scraping options. Swedges are fine if the intent is piercing , otherwise it just style and I dont like style in a user. Otherwise the general blade shape looked great. Play around with grind choice such as full flat, full convex or saber vex, this is the better area to spend time making your knife your own, ditto the handle. Its hared to fault the 162, its a proven blade design, simple effective. The handle shows some designer style which I like but the corners could be relieved some.

Yeah, mainly those blocky machete handles. I’ve got some Ontario, Cold Steel & Tramontina machetes with much love on them;) A nice, decently balanced axe or machete with Wilson wrap will handle much better than without, for sure! I’m sure I have another dated vid that shows me using that inexpensive banger CS Bushman with Wilson wrap somewhere on here. Thanks!

My master hunter broke while batoning... just went ping and it was done.. cold steel is good for many applications...my 8 yr old esse 6 is still Going strong, all my esse knives..6...5...and the 3 still get the job done! I a 27 degree edge on my knives that are 1095...20 degree is to shallow for 1095 steel... your partiality showed in this video... you being a Louisiana boy and esse being an Alabama product may have weighed in of this comparison 😂😂😂... just joking lol! Try a 27 degree edge on that 6, it'll perform alot better for you and hold that edge longer! I will sub you because I like you! And remember ROWAN TIDE HAHA
@pinkbrisingr78
@pinkbrisingr78 2 жыл бұрын
That Master Hunter might have a faulty heat treat. So many knives are heated too high, blah blah. Sure you know that, but it sees Very counter intuitive to have knives inflate across the board and you still have to worry about a heat treat problem. I guarantee it wasn’t that 3V by itself that broke!

Yeah, CS isn’t using ROWAN, dat’s for sure.
@gregperez2352
@gregperez2352 2 жыл бұрын
@KnifeLifeLA no sir I believe it was maybe a faulty knife... but a higher heat treatment will make it more prone to snap under pressure rather than a lesser hardened knife! Don't get me wrong 1095 can fail as well, my brother keeps rolling the edge on his esse 6 but it's because he uses a 15 degree edge! He's hardheaded though and blames the knife!
