Grazie mille, buona giornata e buon vento sempre!

Been sailing for the past 1/2 century, yup getting up there now LOL and loved this video and this is IMHO, hands down the finest 24 footer in the world. A word of caution if I may, please look into the lifelines right by the Pelican hooks. I just changed mine a few years ago. Using ocean racing rules, the newer better lines no-longer come with a plastic covering. The plastic retains water and causes rust even with the best stainless wiring. They cost me a few bucks but were well worth it. Now just a little WD-40 a few times a year and they look brand new. I noticed in your video that rust was showing, NOT a good sign and with the kind of cruising you do PLEASE!!!!! look into this. You guys make a super nice looking couple BTW and I love to see happy people. It has been said that God is happiest when his children are at play, I guess you made him happy here. Peace, Bob

Hi Max, how are you? Thanks for your interest in Dana! Yes she is relatively pricey. I cant comment on the Gulf 32 you mention, it seems a v nice boat also. With regards to a Dana 24 I have to say she has an exceptional build quality and is very well laid out providing the same or more comfort than many 30 footers would, yet her contained size mean mooring fees are low. We now own Dana for 9 years and have had no breakages other than normal maintenance, Buying a Dana costs but owning and sailing a Dana is cheap... I hope this helps Adri/Wouter

This is a lovely little boat, incedible thought had been put into the design.I love the open forward section of the interior and the clever pull-out table. But in my eyes, the boat is too heavy (therefore too slow) and much mucht to epensive. For the prize of a used one you get 2-4 used Folkboats whicht are half the weight and double the Speed.
@landsea3682
@landsea3682 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Maddocmuc, many thanks for leaving a comment. Your point with regards to Folkboats providing excelent sailing for a fraction of the price as to a Dana 24 is well taken. My wife and I know all about the fun of sailing a nippy sailboat that points well, is lively and agile to manouvre. In fact we owned an Achilles 24 for almost 20 years, not quite a Folkboat but in my view in the same league. A Dana is a different beast all together and I don't thing it is fair comparison. Shall be talk about standing headroom? having a decent heads compartment? with shower? a serious galley and good sized fridge? opening windows all around for when at anchor on a hot windless day?? The Dana at these points is unbeatable as you would need at least a 30 footer to get the same level of confort. The Dana is a little floating home at very reduced mooring and maintenance cost and high resell value. As to speed. We get to 6.5 knts easilly with a breeze when sailing less than 50 degrees to windward which is good. If we point to windward she get much slower, less than 4 knts (but perhaps we can do better with new sails?). I am sure a folkboat would sail straight past her and an Achilles 24 would sail circles around her. I think this is due to two reasons: Lots of attrbutes on the Dana provide significant wind friction. Take the bowsprit with pullpit! Or the halyards that come down outside the mast and many other items that make her look really 'boaty' but dont help the airodynamics. The second are the shrouds that are fixed to the outside of the hull with beautifull chainplates (again really classic stuff and very strong) which don't allow you to tighten the genoa as far as you would like when going to windward. So there is a trade-off and you have to make your choices. We choose to change to a boat that would allow us to be at see for long periods without getting tyred and in comfort and keeps ownership/mooring cost under control. Anyhow, in my view the sailing charcteristics of the Dana all round are excelent. As to build quality, I cant speak for Foalkboats but in my view the level you see at Pacific Seacrafts equals or beats what I have seen on Hallberg Rassy and or Swan's from the same period. We own Dana 7 years now and sail her often. Sofar nothing broke and she remains a new looking little vessel. You get what you pay for. Sorry for the long response, hope to greet you at the high seas one day, take care :-)
@maddocmucmaddocmuc5341
@maddocmucmaddocmuc5341 5 жыл бұрын
@@landsea3682 , you are absolutely right with pointing out the full headroom / bath of the dana in comparison to the folk boat. No denying the advantages the dana is offering in the respect of living aboard. So my comparison with the folk boat was a bit biased with respect of getting as much sailing (not living aboard) bang for the buck. But at the end of the day and for me personally, the dana is way too expensive. For that money I`d get a Swede 55 which has the headroom , the bath, more space under deck and on deck and is a true racer. It is a question of individual taste and preferences. The swede is not produced anymore but there are some fine used boats on the market. See her in action at: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gMVjgNqh1dndn4k.html The most important part is: You are enjoying your Dana 24, you live your dream and you live on a boat. A dream that I am far away from. May you have good wind and fair weather!
@landsea3682
@landsea3682 4 жыл бұрын
@@maddocmucmaddocmuc5341 Hi Maddocmuc! I am sitting on the sofa next to the stove, its winter and quite fresh where we live but warm inside the house. I had a look at the Swede 55 and agree that this is a lot of boat for a comparable price we paid for Dana. Now here is annother consideration; I would never buy a Swede 55, here is why. Last summer we send some days in Caparaia, a small island in the Med.... we paid Euro 35 /night in port in August. Had our boat been over 10 meter that would have been euro 130 / night. I dont want to think about mooring cost of a swede 55 in these waters. Purchase cost is one thing, running cost quite annother. How many liters antifouling does that Swede need per layer? how much $$? how many hours work? can we do this ourselves? No? now we need to pay others to do the job? more $$$ I owned a 54 ft yacht once, great for ego, not for the wallet. :-) Small is beatiful. Best wishes for the new year and take care. Wouter
