Instead, like every other bass, he just blandly sings it seemingly completely unmoved that he has two rivals standing before him. It's okay to show a little emotion while you sing! I know traditionally bassos are supposed to be eunuch-like , old and unromantic. But they don't have to be!

She’s got vibrato issues. There’s something inverted going on especially obvious in the lower half of the voice. I hope she fixed this later.

Good colour for this very tricky role. Lacks chestvoice so a half voice.

Why sing an aria from a role you shouldn’t sing on stage? But here it works.

And what happened to her after this?

Her emotions and intensity are much better than her actual voice which has a wobble.

Noone of today's "stars" is on this level - not even close.

Just want to point out that every time the boy cries out for his "vater" the singer makes it more and more dramatic, it's just so good: 00:59 1:43 2:19 2:57. Also worth pointing out is that Schubert wrote every of those parts a half tone step higher than the former, adding to the intense feeling. Damn I love this piece.

Very late in Tucker's life. He is certainly past his prime -- some tones lose focus, and the vibrato gets pretty dang wide, if not actually a wobble. And one gets the impression that he's pushing -- NOT forcing -- but pushing the once-great and still-impressive voice to the very limit of its volume. Having said that, he remained an exciting artist. I regret that I never heard Tucker live. A friend of mine heard him several times at Chicago Lyric Opera, where he also heard Corelli, Vickers, Domingo, Pavarotti, Bergonzi. And he tells me that at least in this house, Tucker's acuti had an impact unlike those of anyone else. He says Tucker's top tones seemed to surge out over the audience, hit the back wall, and reverberate back to the stage. Would love to have heard that --
