Good vid, looks like you guys didnt get to stay near happo which is unfortunate, id say goryu is definitely one of the more difficult places to stay in hakuba. if you ever go back i have some recomendations.try stay near happo as you said booking is competitive in hakuba but sometimes you get lucky. Places to eat id recommend, Ramen Tottsuan epic ramen hard to get into with too many people, Maeda for lunch soba, Sobasyubou ZEN amazing cold soba and "japanese vibe", Yamagami huge gyoza plate with 30 gyoza and pretty good curry and although im reluctant to share this one honestly KIHACHI place is run by a family and its amazing in my opinion. Make sure your booking otherwise your very unlikely to get seats to eat anywhere at a decent time you can just ask your accommodation staff they will usually be able to help. Don't bother going to the Australian-washed bars like Blizzard, check at Hakubar instead it's tucked away under the shoe repair shop. If you are a powder head Goryu, 47, and Happo arnt the place to be, head out to Tsugaike or Cortina you will probably find more tree runs and backcountry off-piste. onsen recomendations are Kurashita and mimizuku. Hope you guys had fun.

I went to Diamond Beach for the first time last week. Absolutely beautiful location to dive/snorkel. My son (10) was able to make it about 200-300 yards off the beach with me. At the right time is good for beginners. There's a drop off out there as well but we didnt make it out there. It's definitely a go to frequently spot for us now.

They also want to charge those who walked to the 5th station from the bottom, and those who took other trails to the top. That's why they check wristbands when you take exit through that gate.

Hey! Can I ask where you’re coming from? We rented a car because we’d get into Tokyo later in the day.. then it would be a 2-2.5 train from Tokyo station and another 1 hour bus from there, but the bus wouldn’t be running by the time we could get up there 😅 so logistically it made more sense in getting to and from Tokyo in our own car. We didn’t touch our car the entire time we were there. If you’re flying into Sendai, there are buses and shuttles that can get you to Zao in like an hour and would be way cheaper. We had 3 sets of gear and 4 people and the van was nice! We’ve never shipped our gear before, but if we do it all again and do take public transport, that’s something we’d do instead of lugging it all around and paying for oversized/excess baggage.

@@willandalextravel Hi Will. just want to say thanks for the free advice. We will be landing at Narita at 7am. planning to travel straight to Zao. there might just be 2 of us with 2 sets of gear. so maybe train could be an option. but i heard luggage in public transport is a bit of a pain. also we plan on going from zao straight to hakuba. so actually car might still make sense.

Thank you for the video, I will be in Japan this autumn and Sumo is my bucket list. I was googling their site and stated the tournament is from 10/11-24/11, my question is do they have match from 10/11 (Fukuoka) and the final (grand final) on 24/11?
@willandalextravel
@willandalextravel Ай бұрын
That’s awesome! From my understanding, there are full day matches everyday during the 2 weeks of the tournament. I’m assuming they would have them on the 10/11 date and the 24/11 date.. when buying tickets I’m sure you’ll see if those dates are available! If you’re not in Fukuoka exactly on those dates, I know you can still see sumo practices in Tokyo and places like that.. but if there’s a tournament going on, all the sumo wrestlers will be in that location. We tried to see them practice in Tokyo once, but it was during a tournament elsewhere so it was impossible 🤷🏻‍♀️ does that answer your question?

Is there a way to commute to the Makinoto Pass? Would love to go but renting a car is quite expensive in my opinion.
@willandalextravel
@willandalextravel Ай бұрын
It is definitely a little pricey for just the day! It depends where you are coming from, but it looks like there is a bus line that stops at the Makinoto Pass from Kumamoto and Beppu. There's also a bus from Yufuin that runs April-November. A website called Japan-guide . com says "For travelers using by public transportation along the Trans Kyushu Route, the Kyushu Odan Bus by Kyusanko provides connections to the Kuju Mountains from Kumamoto in the west (3 hours, about 3500 yen) and Beppu in the east (2 hours, about 2500 yen). The buses stop at both the Makinoto Pass and the Kuju-tozanguchi bus stop beside the Chojabaru Visitor Center. The Kamenoi bus company also operates two buses between Yufuin and the Makinoto Pass on weekends and public holidays from April to November. The one way trip takes about 80 minutes and costs 1350 yen." I would check out those two bus lines OR ask my hotel if they can help figure out the route from there... or really sometimes asking on Reddit is the best strategy! I'm sorry we couldn't be super helpful but this is where we would start!

Was there in December. Absolutely LOVED Hirafu and stayed in Kabayama in AirBNB. Beautiful area, great slopes & super easy to get around on the free shuttle buses which you can track via GPS on their site. Food is quite pricey, but that's what you expect in a village area and ski season. Had the BEST Ramen in Hirafu in the lower village at Bar Moon. Wild Bill's is a grat spot, particularly for Aussies as it is very familiar type foods. Also for the aussies, you can buy tim tams at the mimi mart in the centre of Hirafu. You have to try the ice cream as well, Hokkaido ice cream is second to none and there is someting to be said for having ice cream in the snow. The view of Mt Yotei never gets old and honestly looks like a movie set. Can't wait to go back

0:15 - The Charles bridge is not named after a saint, hence it is not called "St. Charles Bridge". Someone who claims to be familiar with the city should know that. Trdelnik is anything but traditional Czech or Prague food, it comes from Romania and is solely for the tourists (thats why the Trdelnik standa can be found at tourist hot spots ONLY). No native Prague people will neither buy nor eat that crap. Absinthe has also no tradition with Prague but is there to scam the tourists. Most of the "Absinthe" is not Absinthe but green colored liquor. The Honest Guides have done an interesting video about this scam, looks like you missed this specific one.

Hey thanks for the post, what about jelly, did you ever have problems with them? We are planning on going in August!
@willandalextravel
@willandalextravel 4 ай бұрын
Hey! We've never seen them, but August is a part of jellyfish season. We always keep a thing of white vinegar in our snorkel bag and bring a thermos of hot water in case something happens. To be safe you can look up how to treat box jellyfish stings / how to look for them in the water. You can also swim in netted areas like Araha Beach, but I wouldn't say that's the best snorkeling by any means.

@willandalextravel
@willandalextravel 5 ай бұрын
Hi! We don’t remember exactly how long it took, but there were some places one could stand and rest if they needed to. I know personally, my parents who are 60+ with hip and knee problems would NOT have enjoyed all those stairs. You can still take the train there and see what’s left of the glacier from above, but maybe doing one of the other cable cars in Chamonix would be more fun for them..

You’re welcome! If you have your own equipment, you can go pretty much where ever you want. We haven’t been on any snorkeling excursions with a company, but we have used Cerulean Blue tours before and they offer snorkeling tours. If you go on Get Your Guide or Viator, there are lots of snorkeling tour options there. For scuba, we use Bubble Addict, but we’ve heard good things about Aloha Divers and Reef Encounters as well.
