It's important to note that this would never have been sung like this at the time; there would have been loads of repetition and improvisation.

Sin sibh! I am a KZfaqr who makes videos in Scottish Gaelic. I wanted to ask if it was okay to use a clip from this video in my next video. During recording for my next episode of Totally Accurate Battle Simulator's "The Challenge" campaign, I ended up failing on one level for the better part of an hour, so my idea is to take the defeat sounds from that and arrange them like the drumbeats from the beginning of this song before fading into the first couple lines of the song itself. I'll be sure to link your channel and this video in the description! Tapadh leibh!

Latha math! I merely translated the song and arranged the visuals. All credit goes to Griogair Labhruidh for performing the song and Bear McCreary for arranging the music. Feel free to use it, though be wary that the music is copyrighted and it may affect your video’s monetisation.

@@balladsofhistory I am not trying to pressure you i just wanted you to be aware of the lyrics. Just so that they would serve you in case you wanted to do a English translation of it. Since if i myself didn't had the help of a Gaelic speaker i would have been unable to translate it since Capercaillie hasn't posted the lyrics to their new album on ther website and the only avalaible lyrics of the song online only contain 4 verses of 5 verses plus the repeated first verse of the new version. There is also the full original eleven verses avalaible online, but they aren't arranged in same order has sung in capercaillie version.

If you decide to do a translation of Oran do Loch Iall(Song for Lochiel) here is a orchestra version that Capercaille released not so long ago kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oMCYeLJinbqZaas.htmlsi=Uqx9MUQNx3BtPw8E

@balladsofhistory a gaelic speaker was able to identify that this orchestra version has new verses and with help from a old Gaelic Jacobite song book he was able to identify the lyrics that were "added" in fact not added, but they were originally part of the song, but in their old version of Oran do Loch Iall Capercaille only sung 4 of the original 11 verses of the song. In this new Orchestra version they sing 5 of the original 11 verses so i am going to leave you the lyrics in Gaelic and translation here to help you with the translation.

1 verse Here’s health to my hero Tis right full to fill it And to keep it in practice As truly a fashion; Every man who dislikes it I shall leave him a-thirsting To drink it were pleasant In wine or in brandy So pleasant, so pleasant. 2 verse Young Donald from Lochaber Thy health may I see drunk around me, The youth faithful, commanding And in danger unflinching; Little wonder that pride shines So high in thy visage While so much blood royal Does run by thy shoulders So much blood, so much blood. 3 verse It was shown at Gladsmuir Thou excelledst in valour Thy spirit tookst from thy grandsire Who of hosts was commander; And my hope’s in the Trinity If this thing came to triumph I’ll see thee win a Dukedom When that crown has been gained As a duke, as a duke. 4 verse Nor did that coward rabble Take to fleeing in safety For many a red-coat Lay on the field headless And arms from their shoulders And crowns off were stricken By the keen, mighty heroes Haughty, and fearless By the strength of men, By the strength of men. 5 verse Woe betide him who would thwart them Aflame for the battle, With my loved one a-leading, A champion in the fighting; Whene'er thy banner was raisèd By the fine fearless heroes, Their strong arms a-striking Would leave Englishmen lifeless. Their strong arms, their strong arms, Their strong arms, Their strong arms. Repeat verse 1 Here’s health to my hero Tis right full to fill it And to keep it in practice As truly a fashion; Every man who dislikes it I shall leave him a-thirsting To drink it were pleasant In wine or in brandy So pleasant, so pleasant. Songs ends.
