I’ve been telling everyone I know not to get solar panels they are going to leak and cause a ton of damage. You’ll be stuck paying for a new roof and the company you have a warranty with will be long out of business

Looked into solar panels about five years ago when roof needed to be replaced because solar co wants them on roofs less than 10 years old. One of the roofing companies said they would not guarantee the roof if panels were put on it, and that it would actually cancel my warranty with them which made me wonder about the other roofing companies I got quotes from and their position since none of them seemed concerened. I started contacting all the roofing companies I got quotes from to see what their thoughts were and they all refused to even respond to guaranteeing the roof and keeping the warranty so I chose the one roofing company that was upfront with me about the perils of solar panels. So many door-to-door solar panel salespeople back then…. When I told them its a no-go because it cancels out my roof warranty they were surpised that I knew about that. The solar co sales people never revealed that to their customers bc most people would not have installed them knowing their roofing company would no longer guarantee the roof with soalr panels installed on it.

Great informative video! Worked in the trades for 40 + years, contractor, consultant and hospital/school inspections. I see numerous comments on your ladder. Please for your safety read up on the distance on the bottom (ground) from the wall and make sure the top extends the correct amount and is tied off at the top. There isn't any job that is more important than your 10 fingers, eyes, ears and your life. Stay safe!

Roof solar panels are like sex without protection. Eventually, you're going to pay.

Just disconnect the string. there should be a disconnect switch. then your ok. if you get moisture in your panels, then you have cheap pannels. Also when you make holes SLICONE the holes. ALso, watching this that rack was NOT installed correctly! the foot plates go UNDER the singles.

I have always been suspect of these roof mounted solar installations. Like most other industries I assume these solar companies subcontract the work to the lowest bidder regardless of their qualifications. Also it does not make any sense. The purpose of a roof is to protect the home not to generate power. Attempting to use this space for more than one purpose adds maintenance cost while more than likely degrading the effectiveness of the roof. Another consideration. If new shingles are installed I believe a roofing company can cite the solar installation as a reason to deny any warranty claims.

I have to make a separate comment to say how gorgeous that view is! I'm a Mainer so I'm always close in surrounded by pine trees and other trees that block views like this. Sure it's just as gorgeous here in our own ways but when you're not from an area where you see views like that unrestricted it's extra pretty. Not saying I'd rather live there but I could get used to the mountain views. I had some nice ones when I lived in Vermont near Mount Mansfield or would go fishing in the S part of the state with Killington.

What the eco ppl don't know is that when these panels are dumped, like the wind turbine blades, they're made with heavy metals that poison the groundwater while they sit on the ground since they can';t be recycled at all...They just leak poison. Not all that eco friendly, huh? Much like the batteries we store the power in, they're a step BACK for the environment not forward.

I used to use Spider Rax. They had a butyl attachment that also had a flashing that dropped over the screws. They went on fast. But they didn't use rails. Rails are much cleaner. Easier when a panel or microinverter has to be swapped.

Solar - I'd do a ground mount or an attached patio cover but never a roof. If fencing is an option, I have plenty of sq. footage to make up for the losses. When I drive around the amount of dust on I see on roof mounted solar panels is amazing. If solar panels were fence mounted they would be easy to clean.

I got scammed into buying solar and was sold 25 panels for $48K and payments $200 a month for 25 years. The Salesman lied and said there was a $12k cash rebate but turns out it was a tax credit so useless to me. After seeing the small amount of credit from my monthly bill I did the math and the result after a year was it cost me $1395 to have them. I have since filed for bankruptcy and my attorney is offering the Creditor $500 for solar..lol ...They are still on even though Ive been told for several months they were coming to turn them off. Im cringing after seeing this video now and wondering how long before my roof leaks or if the Creditor will come take the panels off even though they will have to repair the roof? ...Solar Panels are a Scam.

Pretty slick, but it does void a warranty if you have one and the company actually honors it 😂.....but I've found butyl rubber seals all😮it's held up for years in marine applications and the only thing better is 3m 5200......but truthfully that's a permanent approach, if you have the slightest chance of needing to remove something, that is the last thing you want to use because you are going to destroy both sides 😢😂😂😂😢

14/12 3 story roof... and half of the pigeons in the city wedging themselves under the array... the installers left the center tall to flatten the roof and it was just tall enough for birds to move in and stay in. Installing the netting didn't take that long, but cleaning up first and checking for damage-waiting for the smell to die down took a while.

In Australia, the solar panels give you extra cooling in the summer. But how much does it cost to replace a damaged panel. You need the same size and specs?
