You immediately lost me when you announced you had an office for diversity and inclusion in the engineering building. How about an office of accomplishments and merit or an office of content of one’s character rather than the color of one skin?

Not sure how long "Drawer a Sketch" (in his classic accent) and "Check Your Work" have been known as Shultz' Axioms, but it seems like everyone remembers them. Best thing Shultz ever said, "If you are an A student, you'll be a great research engineer, if your a B student, you'll be a good engineer, and if you're a C student you'll know what you're doing." Thank you Prof. Schultz for leading me down the path to becoming a Surveyor and Engineer. Much appreciated!

Let's hope that every device born here is not of the "point absorber" category. Since the 1970s, a lot of effort (including my own, since 2007) has been expended on point absorber ideas, and they work! But the electricity produced is of very uneven quality, and the devices cost huge amounts of money to take out to sea and deploy.... then maintain! My working parameters have evolved to (1) no women (or men) go to sea, all devices install and maintain themselves autonomously (2) no electricity and electric wires and cables on the seafloor (3) located well offshore, so no visual pollution or fishing areas disrupted. I now think that "overtopping" devices hold the most promise, as the "Wave Dragon" in Denmark has produced the greatest amount of kwhours of energy, cumulatively, of any wave energy conversion device operating. And no electric generators offshore, IMO, but something else. <<I'm having it evaluated by a research lab.

Yes, it is apparent and obvious that once the performance and cost efficiencies of wave and tidal energy are maximized, the sky is the limit, or shall we say the bottom of the ocean is the limit. Might take some more patience.

Looks like Dr. Hagen is running with a nuanced version of the solution that Chazrick Branson, Stephen McDonald, and I proposed in our CAPSTONE Sr project back in 2014 (which won APEM's Sr Project of the Year Award) by using hydrogen gas as a storage medium to continue to generate electricity via renewables and Columbia Generating System (nuclear) in the Columbia Gorge when the hydroelectric Damns have precedence without having to curtail generation. www.slideshare.net/slideshow/embed_code/key/3cPIck53UtUM3B

I had CE101 in the fall of 1975. I suspect that it was pretty much the same in 2015. What I remember: Draw sketches. Check you work. And another important truth: "Not all of you are meant to be Engineers" And not everyone was. I had a friend who dropped out of CE and became a successful lawyer. But for those of us who were "meant to be Engineers", he got us off to a great start.
