In Oregon(USA) they have somewhat of a pfandflaschensystem. You take your can or bottle to the store and put it in the machine in exchange for a dime. As a kid it's was a nickel and I would cash them in so I could have money to party with my friends.

I forgot to add something I love about Germany: the treatment of animals ❤ I never see stray animals and pets are definitely loved and treated as family. My German friends went to classes before getting a dog on how to care and own a dog even!

I agree with all of this, Salome!! I would like to add one thing to the dislike list about Germany: men being chivalrous! I cannot tell you how many have slammed doors in my face versus waiting a second to extend their arm to hold the door (this is polite in general in my culture, gender regardless) and dates can be awkward when I buy my €2 wineschorle and they buy their own etc. I appreciate gender equality but it can be too much here and I think you are expected to ask for help.

What does it mean - when someone greets you with “Na?”
@SpeakFluentGerman
@SpeakFluentGerman 15 күн бұрын
"Na?" is a casual way to say "how are you?" or "What's up?" in German. It's often used as a greeting or to ask about someone's well-being.
@Yaroslav_A.
@Yaroslav_A. 14 күн бұрын
@@SpeakFluentGerman Ok, now I understand it a little bit better. But still don't quite get what is the proper answer to "Na?" - Should I answer some standard way, like "Läuft". Or some long sincere answer is expected? What would be a proper answer in this case?
@SpeakFluentGerman
@SpeakFluentGerman 14 күн бұрын
@@Yaroslav_A. you can just reply with "Na" or "läuft" is a good option. Usually it’s just a conversation starter and no long answer is expected

"Grombiera" sind keine "krummen Beeren", sondern "Grundbirnen", analog zum ebenso schwäbischen "Äbiera" = "Erdbirnen", oder zum bairischen "Eadepfi" = "Erdäpfel", bzw. französisch "pommes de terre".

why do you speak american english? since you are european i would expect that you would speak british english and that would be taught in schools and elsewhere. but i also know american media is a very large influence in many parts of europe and can ultimately be a bigger influence than learning british english in school. and that in even some parts of africa even though they learn british english in schools all the american media they have now can really make a big difference. i'm curious how you ended up speaking english with an american accent.
@SpeakFluentGerman

I can adapt to the person I'm speaking to. But I need to hear it in order to switch to British English. I’ve actually spent the majority of my childhood summer holidays in the UK as my godmother used to live in Oxford. In school, they would teach the British spelling but none of my teachers were English native speakers (all of them were German). In my videos, I naturally lean towards American English because that’s what I’m immersed to for the most part through nowadays media and also my years of living as an expat abroad. Hope this answers your question ☺️
