Top tip, cut a piece of 1x4 or something the same width of the head and place it flat on the floor between the legs, thatll not only give you a perfect width it will also keep both legs square to each other, which is crucial if you're fitting thresholds. As for the mdf even the moisture resistant when they board and skim that it'll draw the moisture out of the plaster and open up something rotten, skim it first then put the lining in when using mdf.

I just thought it up. Tried it and it worked a treat. There are similar methods which inspired this but they are all way too expensive so this is the cheaper way

Question ha?? If I want 2x 500 doors, would the total width of my unit have to be 1050? Using 18mm mdf ! Thanks
@BuiltByBen-YTАй бұрын
Depends if you over lap or inset them. If you make the carcuss 1st then measure the doors. Best way

@@BuiltByBen-YT I was going to overlap and put a planted end on so when the doors are shut it’s all flush! Like a kitchen cabinet. Not sure I’d be able to inset the doors into carcass ha!! Yes Moisture resistant is better for painting. It doesn't whip the water out of the paint

@alexfawcett14482 ай бұрын
We regret to inform you that we, Pierre and Jeroen, founders of LOQED, were forced to file for bankruptcy today. This decision comes after a difficult period. Through this email, we want to inform you about the implications and the next steps. What does this mean for you? Existing locks will remain online, and new locks can still be installed. This is made possible by the LOQED Online Foundation, which has taken over the management of the platform. In consultation with the trustee, we will explore how the platform can continue in the long term. Additionally, it will be discussed whether the software can be offered as open source. We will remain available for your questions in the coming weeks. However, since LOQED ceases to exist, we cannot continue to provide the usual support and warranty. Together with the trustee, we will investigate alternative ways to offer support and warranty. You can also turn to forums, where many well-informed users help each other with questions.

@pinkplonker87763 ай бұрын
Thanks for this. I am fitting new mdf frames at the moment- it’s my first attempt. The rejected pallet wood supplied for pine linings were just too crap. Expensive firewood. I don’t have the luxury of fixing into studwork, I have to fix into really crap aerated blocks that are way off vertical.. Also, to allow some adjustment, I have had to use 18mm mdf. Lots of wedges, lots of foam adhesive and 135mm long fixings. I hope I don’t, one day, find my expensive oak doors on the floor! I’m traumatised!
@BuiltByBen-YT3 ай бұрын
Wow, I'm not sure 18mm MDF will be up to the job! Be careful 👍
@pinkplonker87763 ай бұрын
@@BuiltByBen-YT Thanks for the quick reply. 18mm isn't my frst choice and where I can get 25mm in I have done. I'm a bit stuck though and the alternative would be to start butchering the blockwork. I have re-inforced the structure around the hinges. New subscriber - really like your stuff.
@BuiltByBen-YT3 ай бұрын
@pinkplonker8776 definitely plenty of fixings then and pack the spacing out very well behind them otherwise 18mm will definitely twist. Good luck on your project mate. Thanks for watching 👍

@@BuiltByBen-YT just really, how do you build trust with clients, how do you get started setting up your own business as a self taught carpenter, also how do you prove to clients that you’re good at what you do? Cheers mate, really appreciate it. You’re a quality chippy, learnt a lot of what I know from your videos
@BuiltByBen-YT6 ай бұрын
@Carpentry_bysteven I worked for a building firm for a while before setting up as self employed. I think this is crucial as a self taught because you can watch other chippies work and get to know the general stuff. I have been doing woodwork for 8 years now and I would only say I became confident in the last 3. The first 5 years was learning from my mistakes and coming up with better ways to do them. I have always struggled with confidence and I am a huge over thinker which can be good and bad in a building site but I suggest you start by picking one aspect of carpentry and getting fluent with it, once that becomes your main "bread winner" you can start to explore other routes. Hope you get on well mate and thanks for watching my channel 👍
