absolute legend a great guy met Steve many times we chatted a lot, i loved Old Vic saw him run many times especially sandown derby trial. loved going to warren place. Steve and Henry true gents always made time for photo signings and Old Vic superior to Nashwan. i remember one night at sandown park having a discussion with charles st george and Henry that Old Vic was way better that another horse i liked alot Michelozzo. st george wouldnt have it. loved Diminuendo backed her as a 2 year old for guineas but saw her at warren place with her lad Jock when i had a privelidged private viewing , Dimi was supposedly in season irish oaks day

My grandmother's nickname was Murt.. Her Mother &Grandma Murtagh called her that as she grew up. After my grandfather married her, he took on the nickname as well. Her Christian name, Teresa Mary Egan, (aka murt) grandaughter of Ellen Murtargh When her grandmother came to Australia mid 1800s, they wrote her name down as Ellen Murtha, instead on Murtagh. She was daughter of William Murtha b.1818 granard, longford. Married in 1937 to Elizabeth Welsh b.1816. ELLEN married an Egan and raised a heap of children in VIctoria Australia. Koroit, Killarney and Kirkstall area. Murtha's are Murtagh's, oh my golly, it took me so long to understand that. The birth certificate system I think perhaps only came in in the mid 80s. Before that, people registered at the church parish in Ireland and Australia. 🧐 Sorry this has more to do with ancestry than horse racing. However in saying that, I feel like I've won a race and it was about to give up on understanding a very important ancestry surname 🙏🏽

One of the best trainers on this planet, all his Derby winners were Class,but The Minstrel was a great training feat after been beaten in the English and Irish Guinness.I was young boy going racing in those days, while I never met Vincent, I would say he was a gentleman.He kept Ireland ahead of the rest with winners of top races all over the world. May he rest in peace. Larry Connolly.

I think it's really likely Aidan O'Brien will do his level best to keep Snowfall & Love away from each other in separate races as often as he can. But should the two end up knocking heads in something like the G1 Yorkshire Oaks, G1 Prix Vermeille, British Champion Fillies' & Mares' Stakes, or even the Arc, I wonder who Ryan Moore's choice of the two would be to ride?

Does a win in this race still get you into the G1 Beverly D. Stakes field next month at Arlington Park?

A nice season seems to be shaping up for this son of Frankel. He's already posted wins in the G2 Dante Stakes at York and here in the G1 Irish Derby at the Curragh, and in his only career loss to date in 5 starts finished 3rd in the Derby at Epsom behind stablemate Adayar, but even that run wasn't without excuses. He edged left when hard ridden late by Buick and ended up losing 2nd place inside the final furlong, only to find out post-race the vet said he'd lost both front shoes during the race.

Thundering Nights ran a "winning" race in defeat. Broome went on to win his next race.

People were saying the second was very unlucky there. A bit unlucky sure but not enough to suggest the result would be any different with a clearer run.

Up and coming jockey and one to watch out for, I watched her ride a winner in leopardstown in a very tight finish, didn't give an inch she didn't, very strong rider. Well done young woman keep it up.

3 for 3 to date for Broome to start his 4YO campaign this season, although in fairness he hasn't really faced much yet in winning the listed Devoy Stakes on March 28th, G3 Alleged Stakes on April 17th or the G2 Mooresbridge Stakes on May 3rd. That being said, surely those 3 victories in pretty quick succession will find Aidan O'Brien putting him forward for a shot at winning the G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup for his next start over Irish Guineas weekend on May 23rd. Should Broome complete an Irish 4-timer or run extremely well in a loss, then my guess would be a tilt at either the G1 Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal-Ascot in June and/or the G1 Coral-Eclipse Stakes at Sandown in July could potentially be in his future.

I was there the day a mare won it. I backed Balanchine at 11/2. A young Frankie Dettori signed my card afterwards. A mare won the Irish Derby. There you go.
