This seems to be very worthwhile trying. I've practically given up using apoyando because the strings catch under my hooked nails.

@@JacarandaMusic Apologies--I first saw your video on Delcamp (I'm new there and don't know my way around), but I was unable to find your old post there (and didn't take note of your name). In this video you use 600 grit sandpaper. I have 500 grit, which should be coarser. But using it, apparently it will take quite some time to actually shape my nails. Do you use something coarser for preliminary shaping, or am I just being too impatient? Thanks!

At 18 seconds, it's out of tune - I had that problem with La Bella Strings too - lovely tone, awful intonation... I've moved to a different maker - lovely intonation, awful tone.... Pianists have no idea how other instrumentalists suffer - pianists have a pianotuner to do it for them...

A lovely piece with interesting chords and despite being easy to play it is much more difficult to play musically. Thanks for the excellent interpretation!

Too much talk not enough playing?

He does not even call 'fret sprout' what it is. It is easy to fix and the wood shrinks away from the steel frets. A guitar needs to be humidified and kept in a case. This is basic stuff and he does not even mention it...
@JacarandaMusic2 жыл бұрын
It may well be easy for *you* to fix. The point, in the context of the video, is that things like that should make many inexperienced folk - the kind who might need this kind of video - to think again. Folk like yourself, who clearly don't need this advice can make their own decisions and take their own responsibilities. I recently had a student bring a nice guitar but with protruding frets; I've been around guitars for decades, I own a tool box, no way on earth was I going to try to remedy this situation. I gave it to somebody able to do the job decently and without risk to the instrument. I could not in good faith suggest to people with little experience of guitars, that if the frets are sticking out, "oh its an easy fix, go ahead and buy it anyway". There are enough guitars out there without protruding frets (we don't call it 'sprout' in these parts!) for the people looking at the kind of guitars at this point of the market to have a good chance of finding one without it. Re about humidifying and keeping in a case, these points are irrelevant to the topic of the video - things to think about when going to look at a used guitar - how long would you have me waffling on, covering every conceivable point? Maybe I should have made another one on how to keep your second hand guitar in one piece. Most players keep their guitar in a case of some kind. Once they get their guitar, if relevant they may decide their climate is such that they need to humidify. Its not that crucial for basic guitars in this climate, though I presume it is for you in VA. This video had a simple intention. Perhaps people ought to make their own videos, with their own aims and objectives, and see how much fun it is when people criticise them for not having the aims they thought they should have.

This is great. What grade sand paper do you recommend and what about downstrokes with a more flamenco type approach?
@JacarandaMusic2 жыл бұрын
Hi there. It is best to experiment with grade, not least it may vary depending on source… but I found 600 is best to give a gradual cut that doesn’t score the nail surface heavily. And in principle you should find that what gives a good ‘normal’ stroke shape will also be fine for rasgueado.

The B in bar ten - I think it is wrong. The F# rises (in the alto voice) to G and the A (soprano) falls to G. A standard cadence in three parts. The G should have two stems, on up and one down, to show that it is a unison in two voices. This is common practice and can be seen in hymns and other part (voice-leading) writing.
@JacarandaMusic2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your thoughts. It is true that your point is the majority opinion - and all bar one (from memory) of the early editions go to a G. One of them has a B, and on that day on that recording I played a B. To this day I still greatly prefer it, overall, whether playing or hearing it, because its maintains the actual 3 parts, audibly throughout the piece, notwithstanding your observation that voices often sing in unison; and you can of course easily do the same on the guitar, by doubling the G. In the two main B minor studies there are places I unison the B.
@maghercushag19022 жыл бұрын
Early editions give the tempo as Andantino not Lento as in the Segovia edition.

OUTSTANDING performance of my favorite piece by Francesco Tarrega! Congratulations! A GORGEOUS, very lyrical interpretation, where virtuosity was subordinated to the composer's intentions! One of the best (if not the best) performances I've ever heard! And I've listened to hundreds of them! And a great instrument! THANK YOU! Gratefully - classical guitar fan from Poland. A. L. ZNAKOMITE wykonanie mojego ulubionego utworu Francesca Tarregi! GRATULUJĘ! WSPANIAŁA, bardzo liryczna interpretacja, gdzie wirtuozeria została podporządkowana intencji kompozytora! Jedno z najlepszych wykonań (o ile nie najlepsze) jakie słyszałem! A odsłuchałem ich setki! No i znakomity instrument! DZIĘKUJĘ! Z wdzięcznością - fan gitary klasycznej z Polski. A. L.
