Gonna try this. I love the cello but multiple injurist got me here. Asking what was I doing wrong, since everyone said they didn’t know. Now I have a starting point.

First one sounded clunky and dry. Second one sounded a bit hollow; the first one had too much midrange, this one had too little. Third one had more bite than the second, and although it wasn't that impressive, I think I liked that one the most

You'd be hella "frustrated" about how I'm embracing my cello, my-guy.

Thanks Clay for sharing your story, and for being so generous with all the wonderful value you bring in this channel. I also come from an “unprivileged” upbringing and though they has always been food on the table, my single mom was not able to afford instrument and music lessons. I did not give up that dream and here I am, 40 years later finally taking the step to fill this longing. I am learning a lot with you, so thank you for dedicating your life to teaching and sharing ❤

I'm the outsider that thinks nr 2 is the best xD Nr 1 is so sterile to me. Yes, it sounds exactly how you think a cello should sound, but there is almost no character to it - it does sound almost shallow. Nr2 does have the character. I loved the second piece you played on it. The C string sound like a thunder, this mixed with the D and A string, sound so nice ❤ Nr 3 is like a mix of Nr1 and 2. It does have a more sterile sound, but it does have more character in it. I play cello only since April, so yeah, complete beginner 😅

Good morning Clay, ☕️ Thanks again for all of your insight. I take in person lessons for one hour every two weeks. In between those lessons I get a great deal of tips and ideas from your videos. I’m constantly working on getting the most out of the practice sessions.

I wholeheartedly agree As an ex-violinist(intermediate) and a classical guitarist(intermediate), I've always wanted to play that fat cello. Bought a 3/4-sized for my 11-year-old, but she ignored it, so I'm trying to play it now I've no problem with fingerings except couldn't get the pitch accurately (like your intro), so I get you, bro. Playin Cello is a hard, hard life, but once you're in it, you just want to keep going like a fool while disturbing everyone

Thank you Sir for your dedication to teach the cello. I would love for my kids to learn to play this beautiful instrument. I have a 10 and 5 year old. In your opinion, at what age would be the best time for them to start learning how to play the cello?
@thecelloonline11 күн бұрын
Any age is good if you have the right teacher and a dedicated parent. The younger they are they more help they need practicing but that really goes for any age especially if they are still in elementary. 5-11 year olds need about the same level of oversight, for different reasons, different focus, but same amount of 1 on 1 practice help. I say that so you know... waiting until the 5 year old is a little older won't change the amount of time you have to be involved. Start them early!!!

I put my thumb on the u shaped part. But of course my thump is perpendicular to the concave u part. Keep fingers relaxed but pull with your arm weight. Pronate fingers

I get critiqued by my teacher all the time on this, collapsing. I have been using my guitar Gripmaster to strengthen my left hand to get the string down

Yeah I got the string vision to help my thumb, you still must concentrate on not locking the thumb knuckle, too much tension as a beginner! Thanks Clay for turning me onto the Stringvision, I notice you are using it on your taped bow

@@thecelloonline Ouch 🤕 luckily it still looks operational 😅 at least you recorded it for us to witness it can happen, so thank you for sharing! I am very clumsy myself and keep having my bow falling too, the cello is full of nips and the bow silver parts all dented 🙈but luckily our instruments are not that fragile after all 💪🏻
