As mentioned by others thank you for this great video. How did you get your block to stay in place? What kind of padding is that under the block that grips it so well? Also can you advise on where I could order? Cheers!

The explanation is great. The one error I see is the upper rows of block above the doors are not angled to match the plane of the doors

I cringed every time you had your fingers in front of the chisels and when you were pointing back towards your body. I’m new to carving but I know the rule about pushing blades away from you. I also have enough scars on my fingers and hands to prove it is an easy role to forget.

How do I get a decent edge on your knives and why don't they come Sharp enough to carve well with?

Very nice video. I see you dug into wood like butter. What kind of wood is that. Is it Bass? I had a piece of oak. I tried your technique. My wood was splintering instead of cutting. Either the wood is too hard, or my Loew Cornell 12 pc set is not sharp enough. Now, I'll have to find sharpening tools.

I made one similar out of two pieces of MDF glued together. One side was a concave side for the outside of the gouges and the other was a convex side for the inside of the gouges. You have to strop both sides sometimes.

Excellent job Lucas. I’m a 72 year-old newbie to wood carving, I live in Alaska, and have ready access to all the cottonwood bark I can carry, lol. I’ve done about 10 Wood Spirits and everyone that sees them really likes them but they’re not where I want them to be. My goal is realism and I want to see that person in the bark looking out at me. This series is exactly what I have been looking for and I will buy every tool that you have recommended in this series. I want to make sure you’re compensated For your work, as you are a master, both has a wood, carver, and an instructor. I greatly appreciated the way you did this series and I know that my next Wood Spirit is going to come out much better. Thank you for a job well done and tell me how to buy the schaaf tools so you get credit for them.

If you want to learn letter carving please watch the video "W055 How to Carve Letters by David Reilly" The reason the madcarver is teaching this slower and much harder way to carve letters is because "Schaaf tools" do not make all the correct chisels and gouges that are proper for letter carving.
