this should be mandartory. Got too man people out there who get really confused once they are in the clouds, when all they would need to do is focus on their instruments because they didnt do it properly in training.

The Navy should have taken a look into that plane instead of a second, advanced FA-18 back then. Now it's 2024 and they still are using 4th gen fighters around the world on their carriers

Nice landing. I always found the flare comes so quickly with hardly any backwards stick on these pipers. I flew the 28-161 (g-sacs)

I watched the documentary on the yf22 / yf23 competition. Black widow ii was almost too good. Purely speculation and subjective but it's likely some "encouraging" was a factor (bribery). They should have made you know, 50 or so. I think it's stupid they limit themselves to 1 fighter as opposed to saying well let's have a few of these equally superior if not better 5th gen air superiority fighter for specific purposes maybe. Psychological warfare is just as critical to military power than force.

Let's see, faster than the F-22, longer range than the F-22, has a significantly smaller RCS than the F-22, thermal dissipation tiles eliminated IR signature, IR SAMs could not get a lock on it at all, was able to do the same maneuvers as the F-22 without thrust vectoring (which was never even mentioned in the requirements BTW). USAF & DoD: We want the F-22 it's a better fit & it's cool at air shows. 🤦🏻‍♂️

@@aaronodellbarajas4728 a lot was politics. DoD & USAF were still pissed about the delays & cost overruns on the B-2 that caused its cancellation at 21 airframes. The fact that the delays & cost overruns were caused by DoD & the USAF repeatedly making requirement & design changes mid production is irrelevant 🙄. Northrop was never going to win that contract no matter what they did. As for the actual plane though, the ceramic heat dissipation tiles had to be installed by hand & that was going to be a huge freaking nightmare for production. Also the USAF brass & the Sec. Of Defense really REALLY loved the cool show the 2-D thrust vectoring enabled the YF-22 to do. Like I said, this was actually held against Northrop as well, even though thrust vectoring was never part of the requirements or wish list. Lockheed added it for the crowd pleasing factor. They completely ignored the fact the YF-23 could do the exact same maneuvers with the way it's vertical stabilizers / control surfaces were designed. The design was on purpose to give the YF-23 superior AoA & the ability to do high G turns without the pilot suffering the Gs. It was just a superior aircraft all the way around. Personally, I think it would have been a strategically smart move to split the order 50/50 & get both. The original order was for 750, so they could have gotten 375 of each. As we know the stupidity didn't stop there, they cancelled the F-22N (Naval Version, there were 2 designs being considered, the same design as the USAF but made for carrier life & an F-14 type with swept wings) & the FB-22 which was the strike bomber version. There were also the same versions for the YF-23. Then they cancel it at 187 & only 162 of those are combat capable 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️.

We have one here at the Dayton AF museum; such a cool jet. It looks ugly at some angles, and thoroughly badass in others. I wish we had this instead of the F-22.

Fun Fact: All missions which have been carried out by the F 22 could have been carried out more effectively by this plane. It was too far ahead of its time unfortunately.
