Great video, ummm, but did you guys ever consider using a practical engine? You know, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, hell , even a Chevy would have been an upgrade. SUPER nice boat! SUPER $HITTY engine choice.... tell me I'm wrong.....
@thomasdahl17302 жыл бұрын
Your wrong. This is an old traditional Norwegian type of boat build for rough conditions. An so is the engine. The Sabb engine is also an old design build to run for ever with a minimum of maintenance. No electric and no stupid sensors that would give you problems in a wet environment. The 10 hk single cylinder model doesn't even have a lube oil pump and don't need a low pressure fuel pump. It so simple and almost impossible to kill. These small engine were even made with genius gear and propeller setup also made to last. But today people only want fancy low noice high speed engines.

@@thomasdahl1730 that engine is the perfect choice for that style hull. It’s an efficient bottom……

You're wrong, and you don't understand the difference between continuous heavy duty and light duty automotive engines. But I assume you were joking.
@gglen21412 жыл бұрын
I used one of those as a kid. It had little cotton starter ... things you'd use to start the engine, when they ran out I discovered 2 shots of light engine oil would do the job just as well. I see that guy figured out the same thing.

Sabb and Saab is two different companies and by the way Saab doesn`t make boatmotors and also the the big difference that Sabb is from Bergen in Norway not sweden!
@emelen123jamesula23 жыл бұрын
I am surprised they don't make motors for boats. They make cars, jets and who knows what else. Truly speaking, I think the Saab fighter jets are very good looking. Well I'll get back to do nothing ad I am stuck in Philippines because of corona epidemic. 2 months, almost 3 months over due to be be in Canada.

hey Ivar... can you send me some information about the settings? Is the throttle directly driven by the MS? Thanks
@TomIvarKverndalen5 жыл бұрын
Only using the closed loop function in MS. Input vas tps and target value were set by the accelerator pedal. This setup to not have any idle options, and I do not know if the system reacts quick enough to use on the road. I know the last firmware version let you connect a GM DBW module by can signal to use DBW.
@skibby255 жыл бұрын
Ok. What throttle you used in the video? I build a race car but the throttle must be the original by the reglement. That kills DBW by canbus. Which PIN ist sensor1? I don't find it in the MS manual
@TomIvarKverndalen5 жыл бұрын
I used an original Bosch unit from a 2.5 liter Volvo V70 T5. The tps from the throttle body was wired to the tps pin. I used a random spare pin to get the throttle pedal signal. I had to use two injector drivers to drive the unit. So I did have to make two similar closed loops just with two separate outputs. It would be easier to use a single output and an external amplifying circuit I think. This setup was just experimental. I think that you should take the parts out and tweak the pid settings to visual inspect that they run smooth and fast.
@TomIvarKverndalen5 жыл бұрын
** Original Drive by wire units do often use 400HZ pwm, but you do not get close to that on MS. You might hear the buzzing from the motor in the video. **
@skibby255 жыл бұрын
Ahh ok. I think a h-bridge between MS and throttle can do the high load. i will tested und would inform you.

did the turbos blow the head gasket or is everything ok thinking of putting a single turbo on my 1085 just need a little info?
@TomIvarKverndalen6 жыл бұрын
Kevin hopkins I do have 1.2 bar pressure. And it's OK. The moust important is to retighten the bolts after the first 100 hours after engine was new built. Very important for any engine with no stretch head bolts. What often happens is that people forget this... They will often blow head gasket even with stock engine. If you mount turbo on a old engine, be sure to retighten the headbolts, adjust valves and get new injector tipps. This may save you from failure. If the engine is worn, you should not do it. All internal engine parts was new or fresh machined on my engine when I installed the turbos.

The naturally aspirated A4.318 was notorious for blowing head gaskets. It would be interesting to see how that engine stands up to TWO turbochargers!
@actorzone8567 жыл бұрын
mackeson3, I own a 1080, I just rebuilt the engine, the reason why the 318 blow head gaskets is the poor engineering design of the sleeves, the head sits on the sleeves which are a gasket thickness above the block so the head gasket cannot seal properly, The new sleeves are the standard type 3 to 4 thou above block, Perkins engineers must have been asleep when they made the 318 engine, the rear end looks like a 1085 made of cast iron with wet brakes, destined to break if you treat it rough unlike mine which has cast steel rear end, round axles, dry brakes.

@mikefoxo The difference between the dry brake axle end the oil brakes is that dry brakes looks like the rear axle from an MF 35. Just look at a picture of a MF 65, that's the same dry brakes like the early 165.
