I cam from the United States and had to submit a self-check health form, but was not required to show proof of a TB test or exam. It is likely different from other countries, so I would look into your specific visa requirements no matter what! For all E2 visas, they do a health exam soon after you arrive which includes an x-ray, blood test, and urine test.

I think you're being a little unfair with the controls. They are standard with any hotbar-based MMO (it uses the exact same style and setup as WoW, even) and yeah, it might not seem intuitive for somebody who's never played a hotbar button game before, but seriously, the game does not in any way require you to use an 18 button MMO mouse or click the hotbar buttons at all. I don't know if you noticed it or not, but the hotbars have little numbers on them. These correspond to the numbers on your keyboard. The way that I always did it was I used the number keys on the keyboard for abilities with WASD for movement, and most players will use their mouse to turn, though that's not how I do it, but eh. It probably only seems clunky because you're not used to this kind of game, to be honest. As to the community, well. You're streaming. If you weren't streaming, then nobody would say anything about your setup because they wouldn't be able to SEE your setup. So that toxicity you encountered probably wouldn't exist. EDIT: Also, as far as fearing peoples' reactions to your scores, one thing I would ask you to try to understand, is that XIV players already get a lot of toxicity and hate from World of Warcraft players. Awhile back, a year or two ago when Blizzard was in some deep crap with some really bad PR about toxic behavior within the company, and how WoW's Shadowlands was a terrible expansion and how XIV's Shadowbringers expansion was touted as the best expansion ever, some predominantly WoW youtubers like Asmongold, Preach, Pint, and a few others tried XIV and generally gave it really positive reviews and publicity. This caused a lot of WoW players to flood into XIV, and a lot of them didn't take the game seriously, or they'd go in expecting it to be WoW (it's not, by a longshot), or they wanted stuff that WoW gave them, that XIV doesn't so much, such as faster paced gameplay and heavy PvP emphasis. XIV is all about the engaging story and more relaxed and chill environments to enjoy. XIV players would hear endless trash-talking about the game from WoW players and so they've gotten a bit thin in patience for people who have harsh criticisms towards the game especially when it looks like they didn't give the game a whole lot of a chance, and/or when some of the criticisms are made with a lack of some information that could be found if you asked around the community. XIV's community is always ready to help, it's not hard to find someone who'd give helpful advice on something you didn't know (such as the controls). There's also a plethora of videos on KZfaq to help with this sort of stuff, too! So when a player only tries 20 hours, and doesn't consult all of this stuff and then gives it such a low score on something that's only a problem if you didn't know any better, and a problem that's easily fixed with 10-15 minutes of youtubing or talking to a member of the community, then yeah... they might not receive the criticisms too well. They've heard it all before from WoW players, and they do indeed love the game and a video that isn't all that flattering will probably be seen as annoying.

I’m not sure I understand any of these complaints/critiques, in truth. Any XIV player will tell you that the story becomes incredible in Heavensward and continues to become better and better with each subsequent expansion. ARR is short compared to the other expansions, so while the story can be a slog, it’s relatively quick to get through and picks up the second you reach Ishgard. This is something that everyone in the community knows and we all let new players know this. The mechanics are easy to pick up, though hard to master. The structure of them has worked wonders for my ADHD and anxiety, providing me with clear goals that are easy enough to achieve with time spend and diligence. A lot of the problems you raise about 14 are common in all other similar MMOs. If the point is to discuss MMOs and their tie to mental health, 14 excels above most other MMOs in almost every facet. Playing 20 hours of this game and then letting your chat berate you isn’t allowing you to make a fair assessment of the game, so perhaps it’s best not to discuss it at all. If you aren’t willing to invest the necessary time into this product or fully engage with, and attempt to learn, the systems…it’s truly challenging to take your opinion as anything other than horribly uneducated.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this comment, I really do appreciate it. I definitely understand that the community of this game is a fantastic one and I know avid players love this game. I never want to detract from that. This report card is based on my experience as a beginner player and works to point out what I believe other beginners will be struggling with or enjoying, as well. Obviously every gamer is different, so this will not be the same for everyone. As I mentioned, I have heard that once a player gets to Heavansward, the game picks up. My issue as a beginner was I felt no desire or interest to get that far. The few occasions I was berated by chat did not cause this; the storytelling and gameplay did. Overall, the community in this game was wonderful and I desperately wanted to love FFXIV as much as my friends do. But for me, this community and desire just couldn't make up for my lack of fun I personally was having. Whether you believe it or not, I put my heart and soul into the few hours I played this game and even enjoyed it with friends, old and new alike. I know my opinion is not a popular one here and I never want anyone to feel like I am tearing down their game or their community. I sincerely hope you continue enjoying FFXIV, as everyone deserves a game and a community that works for them. ❤️

Squenix has always said that this is a story driven RPG first and an MMO second. "1 cutscene was a 10 minutes" you sweet, sweet. adorable soul! 😊 There is a cutscene in this game that has been clocked in at 46 minutes... one... cutscene... At least you get to see the next part right away... we all had to wait for the expansion for the resolution of that cliffhanger... I agree that the whole swapping between voiceover and making you read is irritating (to say the least) that has been a complaint of mine for years. With complexity comes freedom and this game has the most customizable UI that I have seen in any game... ever... Unfortunately they don't take the time to educate a player about this. I agree about the skills just being vomited onto the hotbar. They also don't do a good job of truely teaching you these skills and how they relate to your endgame rotation. The game shines in the raiding. Coil is my favorite because of the story, but the first 4 endwalker raids are my favorites mechanic wise. The game once shown in the crafting system. It has basically been figured out now, so it doesn't feel as special as it used to. Half the classes have been samefied and no longer have enough uniqueness to make me happy. The only ones left unique are ranged DPS. A lot of these issues you brought up are things that the community has been fighting with SE about for a long time. SE is aware that the early game has issues and has done a lot to help with that.

Not just a 10 minute cutscene, but just the written dialogue was 10 minutes of me clicking through it 🥲 But I gotta be honest, idk if I could make it through a 46 minute cutscene, voice acting or not lol I do have to admit, I'm more of an action driven player. Story is important to me, but secondary to action. I just personally found the story I've encountered so far in ARR to be severely lacking. I have heard from everyone I encountered in the game that a lot has been changed to improve it overall. I really hope it continues on that path to make it more enjoyable and accessible for the average beginner player.

While in general I feel your assessment is fair, I would encourage you to take a second look at 'accessibility' options. Just about everything in the HUD is customizable, and you can set just about anything you can think of to whatever keybinds or mouse clicks you want. I agree that the default settings could be more user-friendly, and i also agree that these features could be better advertised and/or explained (I've been playing for over 5 years and I'm still finding out about some features that have always been there), but they are there. I take your point that for someone just picking it up for the first time, these features might as well be absent if they have to be searched for to any degree. But of all the many games I've played, I found the HUD and keybinds of FF14 to be the best of any....if you can find them.

If you've read at least one good book, you will very likely be disappointed by the story to the very end. The pacing is atrocious, things are drawn out to a ridiculous extent while simultaneously being kept so vague that you often wonder what's going on. There are tiny gems here and there, but in my opinion these aren't worth reading the other 99% of text thrown at you. The structure of every expansion's story is: boring, boring, boring, etc. Then they remember that they somehow have to make it end in a memorable way, so they hit you with one emotional gutpunch after the other (which won't land if you skipped most of it). Rinse and repeat. I agree that many systems just are clunky and if at all explained, very badly. The mentor system isn't bad per se, but imagine the devs had done their jobs (well) and explained their game better to new players, instead of making veteran players pick up the slack. The vast majority of sprouts have no clue what The Hall of the Novice does, that there's a channel called Novice Network, or how to enter it - you can't, you need to be invited by a mentor. Meaning the game expects mentors to actively look for sprouts and tell them about their Lord and Saviour. Yes that's what it feels. You approach a sprout, send a /tell, you wait for an answer which usually won't come, you move on to the next one. Once you found someone interested, they hit you with ALL the questions and/or demands for being carried/getting gold/items. Now you're stuck explaining EVERYTHING. Where do I get my chocobo, when do I get it, why is the story so bad, how do I change setting xy? It's just so incredibly lazy on the devs' part, I have no words for it. If a potential new player read that, just stay away from the game. The story won't live up to your expectations, combat/menus/chat are clunky as hell, graphics are nothing to write home about, plugins that would offer SOME qulity of life are strictly against ToS. The only positive about ff14 is the community. But to be honest, you can find good people or your niche in pretty much any game.

First year french teacher here, I generally agreed with all your points minus the mechanics, I do understand that there are a lot of buttons and the game will place abilities where there is space available, but this is not a take against FFXIV specifically, this is just a standard of MMO's especially with its age and spaghetti code (1.0 was so bad they had to scrap it and remake the entire game into 2.0 probably heard of it. I started this game when I was 16 roughly and binding your keys to shift and f1-f4 have been lifechangers. I understand this is a lot to ask of a new player and not many people want to spend that much time to get started with an MMO. Also wanted to note I assume you are generally an FPS player because when you mentioned the tab to open up the map I couldn't help but chuckle because I've never had that thought before I've generally used M for any game to open the map including FPS. But also going with the story, you wont get any until the end of 2.0, followed by exposition and then 3.0 Heavensward. This is NOT THE GAME if you want to invest only 50 hours. DO NOT PLAY FFXIV. I grew up playing MMO's main reason why I know french is because I have played this game IN FRENCH. This is a massive timesink, 20 hours for an MMO is roughly only about 30-40 levels if you speed through it. The genre itself for each game are month long endeavours if you want to get into it. Even to this day I have been trying to get into ESO for about 4 years now, spent 350 hours according to steam and still barely touched the surface of the game. Again ARR is bad now... its been cut down I believe by half of its original amount. When I tell new players about FFXIV I know some people who spent about a couple months on the MSQ but its about enjoying your time getting there, enjoying the community you sorround yourself with and asking questions. It is a VERY SLOW burn, but the payoff is worthwhile IF YOU ARE READY TO INVEST 80+ hours. Once you get to level 50 the difficulty option and raids become available for you, but again its a slow grind. This game is a decade old and the age is starting to show even with all the advancements of ARR and removing quests, its still alot. I remember being 13 playing SWTOR and taking me 3 weeks to get to level 50. Games back then where extremely grindy and fetch quests were the norm. I am not disagreeing with any of your points really, I just believe you went in with certain expectations that were never going to be met with that time frame. If you are willing I do believe you should give this game a chance, it is worth your time and really the main reason why I love what I do, but again for a long time this was the ONLY game I have played and many people cannot make that commitment to stick with one MMO for a long period of time. Anyway this is getting long and I need sleep but Im now interested in your other videos soo consider me intrigued. Enchante
@GamerGloTV

I really appreciate the time and detail you put into your comment! I totally understand where you're coming from regarding the time sink. While I do play FPS games, I mostly play RPGs and MMOs! I know I won't be able to get to "the good stuff" in 20 hours, but I want to get through quiwt a few different MMOs to grade and I think 20 hours is a decent amount of time to get an idea from a story. I did hear from MANY FFXIV fans that it would not be enough to really enjoy it, which is fair -- I'm just not sure if many beginner MMO players will want to put so much time into a game they aren't familiar with if they can't find a reward sooner. That is just my opinion though! When it comes to the map, my main MMO is Lost Ark, which does use tab for the map, so that's where that habit came from lol Again, I def didn't knock points for that -- it was just annoying for my brain! lol I know so many people who play this game and love it! And I am a HUGE FF fan myself!! Maybe I will give it another go one day to get further in the story.
@Frothmeister
@Frothmeister 5 ай бұрын
Reality is due to the age of the game and it's release and subsequent re-release the story doesn't really get going until a lot more than 20 hours in. I don't know who told you that FFXIV was an action role-playing game, but it isn't, so it's kind of weird to expect action role-playing combat. But yeah, the base game is pretty boring storyline wise, you need to just kind of get through the slog of it if you want to experience the story, if not that's pretty understandable. Ironically, the early game is the only part of the game with "hard" mode dungeons, but you need to unlock them.

LOL totally fair!! I based the grades on only this 20 hours of gameplay, so I hadnt reached raids or dungeons quite yet. If I had kept playing, it definitely would have been lower!

LOL maybe that'll be a video for the future! I have about 200 hours on my Wardancer, but as I said, I am a filthy casual, so I know there's a bunch I'm missing

Laughing at the "Low Grind" grade. I have over 6k hours in this game, the grind starting at Punika is rough. I really wish they had kept the Jumpstart server separate for newbs, we're still doing all of the low level content and helping out new people. And yes, there is a soundtrack in all of the playable areas. I'm in Elgacia right now and there's music in the background. And you obviously haven't heard the music for the Legion Raids yet. If you decide to keep going, there is another body type, look at the Specialists. Most Korean MMOs are known for beautiful playable characters.

Totally fair! I did just base this off m first 20 hrs on this playthrough lol It def would have scored lower for grindability if I had kept playing. I need to figure out WHERE MY MUSIC WENT??

19:26 This is not true, every major cities has their background music. Maybe you have something wrong in your settings ?

Ah, maybe! I haven't changed the settings in my game, but let me look into it! I would LOVE to have background music while I play. Thanks for letting me know!

I like the concept of this channel. I would have liked to see some footage of the gameplay in the future, with the “grade” in the corner instead of the entire screen.

ahhh loved the breakdown of the grading! excited to see what you'll give ffxiv :3 love the game but obviously i'm caught up on msq lmao, so it's hard for me to personally grade. can't wait to see you play more! if there's ANYTHING i know we can count on in ffxiv, it's the MUSIC. i know we won't see "eye to eye" on all the ffxiv stuff, as we are interested in different things , i do hope you enjoy the beginning <3 i know it's been a bit reworked for ease in the recent years. excited to play together! :)
