Obviously mortally shot. In my view that deer was blind going around and around due to blood loss. As hunters we do the best we can to make a clean quick kill, but this is hunting and it doesn’t happen as quick as we hope. Congrats on a nice buck

Glad you enjoyed it man! I’m ate up with chasing these critters and just started playing my around with video and editing to capture my memories. I love watching others content so started sharing mine as well. Check out my latest video from this past season. My biggest buck to date had a crazy reaction to a lung shot. Some controversial opinions on whether or not I should have included all of it in the video or edited it out. Let me know your thoughts
@keiththornton72023 ай бұрын
Your big kill with the crazy “stick around and shoot me again” attitude was incredible. Very few videos show the real life action, but yours is as real as it gets. I for one totally appreciate it. My first ever bow kill, many years ago, was a double. Three does walked in and I pinned the first one literally to the ground. Then I had my wits enough about me to grab another arrow. The two others had stopped at 30 yards and I could see the vitals of one. I shot it also. This was on a WMA in Chattanooga that no longer exists. So that first doe, the one I pinned to the ground, she took like 10 minutes to die. Also, she was directly under my tree. I was too absent minded, never once thinking to put another arrow in her. I suffered watching her suffer. Plus, I was shaking so bad from adrenaline I wondered if I’d ever calm down. That first one is amazing. Afterwards, when I was more clearly thinking, I thought “Why didn’t I shoot her again???” This double kill hunt is permanently engraved in my gray matter but I would have LOVED to have it in video. Enjoy your treasures, both on the wall and the big screen. 👍🏼

Awesome buck! A hard video to watch, but unlike others, I don't think it was a bad shot. Based on entrance and the angling forward exit wound it looked like a good ethical shot. I have seen deer expire quicker from worse shots. Not all deer react the same when hit by an arrow. Some years ago I doubled lunged a 7 point that ran 40 yards out of the brush, then 200 yards across a cut soy bean field, over railroad tracks, and expired 40 yards inside the next woodlot. When I dressed him out, both lungs had an X in them. Go figure.

Its bittersweet for sure. A bit of sadness and a ton of respect as you see an old bruiser fighting for his last breaths along with excitement, gratitude, and relief that it all came together after so much time and effort went into the chase. I always try to remind myself that mother natures death for these animals is usually a lot more brutal and inhumane.

Dude so happy for you, but the suspense should be your experience, not more ammo for the anti hunters. Always crazy to see how tough a big mature Whitetail buck is. That’s a really nice buck as well!!!!!. Good deal putting a second shot in them. Always take a second shot if you can….. make holes!!! Can you tell us what you hit on the first shot?
@whitetailhungry68997 ай бұрын
Absolutely, I know the shot looks back but if you slow it down and go frame by frame which I am able to do on my editing software you can see the arrow kicks forward a bit right at impact. The entry was about midway up the lung and on the back edge of it, the exit was the bottom back 1/3 where the lungs diagonal down to the front leg ( about center of the lungs if you look at total lung length. Second arrow entered the same lung as the initial shot entry high in the lung and exited low out the diaphragm.
@TerryKetterer767 ай бұрын
Great buck! Congrats. First shot looked a little too far back. Guessing Liver and one lung. He would have died from the first shot for sure but you did the right thing by putting another arrow in him. I was wondering why you didn't do that sooner. Where did the second arrow hit?
@whitetailhungry68997 ай бұрын
Believe it or not the deer had 3 holes in his lungs. If you go frame by frame on the 1st shot you’ll see the arrow kicked forward slightly from where you last see the fletching. 1st shot entry was mid way up the lung and on the outer edge. Exit was lower 1/3 of offside lung and outer edge bc the lung tapers down toward the front leg. 2nd shot entered high in the lung (exit lung from 1st shot) and exited out the diaphragm

@frankiecortez88907 ай бұрын
You definitely had time to put another arrow in him. And am I the only one noticing it looks like 2 of the sits you sat up on the wrong side of the tree. The ways you kept trying to maneuver around. Definitely didn't look comfortable.
@whitetailhungry68997 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. Yes, i had time but what you can’t see in the video is that there was a 6 point and a doe within 30 yards of me and after the 1st shot they were both had me pegged. I didn’t think I could grab another arrow without spooking them all until he went thrashing through the brush. I then put another arrow in him the first chance I had. As for my setup, it only seems like the wrong side of the tree because the buck didn’t come through the strip of timber I was hunting which is why you see me filming the deer 100+ yards away rather than in bow range. Every time I made a move to where i last saw him, he and his doe shifted and did something different.

What you don’t see is there’s 2 other deer inside of 30 yards outside the frame of the video staring at me after the 1st shot. I wasn’t able to get another arrow without spooking all the deer until he started thrashing in the brush.

Had a similar experience this year with a rifle. Got my a buck during my first year 'tracking' and solo but with the lack of snow it was more like a casual forest meander. He stood up and started browsing at most 15 yards away. Hit him low single lung (thought it was heart from the blood trail but during processing I gain a new respect for the concussive power of the 30-06) and he barely flinched. Walked maybe 15 yards before bedding and I bumped him once with my rookie excitement. He only walked another 10 yards before bedding for the last time. It was also pretty hard for me to watch his final moments like that even though the time between the shot and him expiring was 2 minutes at most. Hard to tell, it feels like it was forever but was over so quick.

They have one thing to do & that is pro-create. They put themelves through hell & r harder than heck to kill during that time of year. He was dead after the 1st shot on an earlier hunt in tge season & would of only gone 20 feet. They r what is called superhuman when they r on the prowl. U could even tell even when he collapsed that the will to live was strong. Just wanted to breed a couple of more does & could u blame him fir being a stud? Glad u were persistent & stayed true. I coukd see the head on your camera but i couldn't identify it. Great hunt & anyone who ? your ethics isn't a true hunter.
