I do this with my chest freezer. I wouldn't do this with my refrigerator. Refrigerators can't hold temp like freezers. You are risking damaging your food and it won't save your power usage because when it turns on, it will just use more power to bring down the temp.

Nice introduction to solar you got there. I got four 450 watt panels, 60 amp charge controller, three 100ah LiFePo4 batteries and a 2000 watt inverter. It ran almost everything in my apartment through the recent hurricane power outage here in Jamaica. My fridge is currently running full time on solar since then.

You display a lot of smarts. Most people think of heating or cooling their entire house and it is about maximizing the little energy available to you. Doing the master bedroom is what I do too. Think about buying another battery like Li Time, Power Queen, or other brand that can help you double your running time when solar is not available. It is a lot cheaper than buying the expansion battery. You could buy 2 or 3 for what one expansion battery costs. I also use 12V refrigerators because they only pull at most 35 to 55 watts and a Jackery 500 runs my fridge for 43 hours before needing a recharge. I also have a Honda 2200 generator that I converted to propane as well because in these emergencies gasoline and propane will be in huge demand and short supply, so propane does not go bad. I only use the generator to charge my 2KW EcoFlow units which are 2. It will charge one unit under 2 hrs and both units under 4. So you don't need to run the generator all night long, which saves a lot of fuel and then start charging with solar the next day if the sun is available. I just ordered an EG4 inverter and battery and that will be used to run my window unit a/c because it has 5 kw and it will be mobil on a hand truck or dolly. Stay well and hope you stay safe.

I actually have in mind of getting a 300ah lipo4 instead of the expansion battery from Bluetti, that will bring this system to over 6kwh back up power.

Very good advice, the time has come when we all must be ready for grid failure and blackouts, I'm going to be building the same system myself, with the EG4 3000 kw inverter and 1 server rack battery. Have several dual fuel generators and loads of propane, but the solar will just be another back up and it's quiet. Best regards!

I use my ac200max +b300 battery to power 2 bedrooms daily. If the power does go out I switch it to refrigerator. If you have an EV, you can put an like a 1000W inverter on the 12v battery to power additional loads and the main EV battery will keep topping off the 12v battery and you can last for days on that.

Smart usage of a solar power station. Since a refrigerator is good for 4-5 hours off, you could also add an appliance timer to the refrigerator and run it one hour on, three hours off.
@howardescoffery4950
@howardescoffery4950 24 күн бұрын
In an hurricane you be home and find the timer useless in an hurricane, why? Well you will have a moment or two when the sun peaks out and you would rather have your batteries soaking up as much power as it can. In my case, I just turn everything off to allow the batteries to soak in as much power as it can. The timer maybe on at that time. So my conclusion is. If you have to be elsewhere a timer is good, if you are at home manual is better because you can adjust as necessary.
@warrenglen7636
@warrenglen7636 24 күн бұрын
@@howardescoffery4950 I agree, Manual is best, because with turning the inverter all they way off, you don’t get the 15-60 watts of inverter loss. Timer come into play to either make things easier to if the inverter is going to be on anyway to power other things, or if you are running two refrigerators/freezers and want to make sure only one is on at a time.

It seems common place to include wires that are too small for the rated maximum load with all the manufactures of the less expensive models. You could also put a fuse on the battery output that is equal to the wire rating rather than the inverter rating. While it would reduce your maximum output, I feel it would also increase the life of the inverter.

Here's the issue with doing this: the refrigerator is going to warm up to the point where it will need to run longer to reach the temperature that it's been set at. So you really aren't going to save power by doing this. If you do want to save power, raise the temperature setting of the refrigerator.
