I like the video. Addresses something I'd been toying with. While I see how you apply the gradient to a shape, how though would it be applied to a selection? I don't seem to make that work.

I like quarter-fold cards. I wanted to design larger ones, standard-sized cards but you can't beat quarter-fold for its simplicity in designing on the computer, printing out and folding. You don't even need to print them on heavyweight cardstock. TFS! Couldn't the bleed be set to make printer print to edges?
@DigitallyFearless
@DigitallyFearless 2 күн бұрын
Yes it could if you have a printer that does print to edge, but note that you have to be very precise so the folds meet in the correct position.

Thank you for doing this! I'm brand new to Affinity coming from Photoshop after 18 years, but sick of the changes, subscription fees and new policies. There are many use cases for compound masks, and it can be done in PS also. I don't know the official name, but I've heard people call it "masking the mask" where it's especially useful working with complex luminosity masks and compositing work. Similar things can be accomplished using clipping masks. The process is different, but the end result the same. This video was extremely helpful to me since I'm trying to find ways to replicate my workflow in PS. Thanks again for the help!

I just tried it on the iPad with another photo and it worked. You have to create an affinity photo file. Then in the new document place that file. If you double click on it it will open the original. Any changes made will show on the new file.

Thanks! Indeed the ‘James Ritson method’ like I call it. I am still frustrated that I learned this only a couple of months ago, so excellent that you share this. it’s a huge difference. With colored backgrounds like your example. (In the past i recolored with HSL😂😂) but,worthwhile mentioning, even more amazing with difficult landscapes with trees, bushes and windmills (when replacing the Sky. By the way James offers an awesome set of different skies).

I love these tips! But, I paint on watercolor paper, it's cream colored and has texture. What's the fastest way to remove that background without doing the background erase brush? Often it will remove my lighter painted colors as well. And doing this particular tip you are sharing it doesn't remove all my background, it leaves a hazy background with the texture left behind of the papers texture and its cream color. Thank you for so many tips!

i'm so pleased finally after searching for weeks to find this simple clear info to use Affinity Photo to print art cards... amazing as i have purchased a book (NO index, the complaint in all the reviews on Affinity Photo books) i've also searched tutorials. this is a great relief, NOT just for kids. Lots of artists print their own cards & need this very basic info.

I wanted to learn this brilliant technique. Sorry, I tried again and again, I can not create the same result as you have. I can not separate the elements when doing it black and white.. This steps are much too fast to follow. It makes it really frustrating. I give up and try to find another teacher that explains it sloooow.

Gradient map is for the photo. Gradient tool is best used for a new fill layer above the photo and then when you can change the blending mode to see your photo.

Thanks. I couldn't figure out why my masking wouldn't let me paint on them, 'protect alpha' ; which I could not find on my menus. Your video clued me in that my options were hidden off to the right on my toolbar because I am working on a vertical display.
